Hello, all.

On the way to Kaslo from Nelson on Highway 3A on February 14, about 100 meters before the west end of Longbeach Road, there is a pole with an Osprey nest on the top.  In that nest, a Canada Goose was sitting - only its head and neck could be seen, so I am thinking that it is already sitting on eggs.

This seems rather early in the year to me since it is only mid-February.  Could it be that she has started so early due to the warmer weather?

I could have sworn I saw an Osprey the other day too! Geese usual sit in March don’t they? That is early!

It does seem early to me. I don't recall any previous February nesting records.
With regards the Osprey, as of today there have been no reports of Osprey anywhere in Canada. There is one early report from the Seattle area.

The observation of a goose nesting, prompts me to post to here my observation (and a picture in the posting) of a month-early Killdeer on Feb. 14.

A pair of Canada geese have been guarding the nest on our beach west of Kokanee Creek for a couple of weeks now. They won’t be laying eggs yet but such real estate is at a premium. There have already been goose squabbling over the nest.
