today's hawk watch

Five of us participated in toady's hawk watch. It was very slow early on and we wondered if we were in for another poor day like we had earlier this month. But things picked up a bit in the 3rd and 4th hour. Our results we as follows:

Turkey Vulture 13

Sharp-shinned Hawk 1 (a surprisingly low number)

Cooper's Hawk 4

American Goshawk 4

Accipitrine hawk sp. 3

Northern Harrier 1

Broad-winged Hawk 4

Red-tailed Hawk 5

35 raptors in total, a below our long term average of 44. 

26 of our birds came between 1215 and 1345

I hope to do one more survey this year, some time in early October. The bulk of the Golden Eagles pass through in late September and October. I'll be watching the weather!
