Dear WJHS Community,
In our ongoing effort to maximize focused learning time, I am
requesting that students do not dress in costumes and face or hair
paint for Halloween on Friday, October 30, 2009. I would like to focus
on academics the entire week prior to this occasion. Students will
have ample time to celebrate in their own way on the weekend and I
appreciate all cooperation with regard to this request. Teachers will
continue their essential work with students and our academic and
behavioral expectations for that day will be as high as any other. I
will be communicating this request to all students, via daily
announcements, well in advance.
To further develop solid citizens and to teach empathy and compassion
I am asking that students donate any excess candy they can part with
to our troops overseas. There will be a large box in the main office
on Monday, November 2, 2009 to collect these sweets. Students can drop
off their donations once they disembark buses Monday morning. I will
then ship these items overseas with a letter of appreciation and
thanks to our soldiers from Wappingers Junior High School. Despite any
particular affiliation, I feel this is a gesture that would be
appreciated and is another way to develop pride in our school and
community.
Yours in Education,
Mr. V. DiGrandi
Principal
