I am looking for any information anyone may have about some special cars that
Chrysler made in the early 70's. These were VERY regional cars made special for
the St. Louis Blues hockey team. I know that there were two different years
that these cars were made. In 1970, the car of choice was the Barracuda and
Barracuda Gran Coupe. In 1971 it was a Sebring(looks like a Satellite). I am
really trying to concentrate on the '70 Barracudas, however, any information
would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I know up to this point.

For the 1970 model year, the St. Louis Ad council commissioned Chrysler to make
between 33 and 37 special Barracudas, of which only 8 were Gran Coupes. The
cars were all painted white with a blue roof, the colors of the St. Louis Blues
hockey team. This is the only way this particular paint combination was
available. Engine sizes and options are unknown. Exact number of cars is
unknown. The cars were given to players and coaches to drive while in town.
They were then returned to the dealers involved, where the dealer had the
option to buy the car for resale. I believe the cars were built sequentially
early in the '70 model production run.

That is about all I know. I know for a fact that these cars exist. I have seen
one in restored condition and that is the only one I know of. I have also
talked to one sales manager that remembers these cars. In fact, he told me
about the Sebrings.

Like I said, I would appreciate any info on these cars. You can reply to the
group or email me directly at Rober...@aol.com.

Sorry for the long post.
Thanks
Rob

I am sure you are aware of the one that was featured in Mopar Collectors Guide
a few years back. I have that issue . As far as the '71 Satellite Sebrings, this is
the
first I have heard of them . I would be very interested in learning more about the
Saint Louis Blues Satellite Sebrings if anyone knows anything.
Being somewhat of a Mopar historian , and being very interested in unusual Mopars,
I'd love to find out more about the Barracudas as well, but especially interested
in the
Satellites , as I am into the '71 B-body Plymouths .

Related but slightly different: Does anybody have any info on what
exactly "Western Sport Specials" were, and what years they were made? I
have seen two (one A-body, and one B-body) here in Las Vegas, and have
been told that they were produced for members of the Western States
Dealers Association, and were equipped with a HiPo engine, larger
radiators (& tranny coolers if automatics), stiffer sway bars, and low
numeric (2.45 through 3.11 rears, and the best brakes available
(basically the cop car stuff). One of the two I saw bore this out, at
least that is what the build sheet and fender tag indicated. Both of
the ones I saw had painted markings about five inches wide and three
inches high on back of the front fenders, and the right side of the
trunk lid in white block letters. The intent was to go very fast across
the big wide opens of the west.

I think the WSS was just a regional trim package. I do not think there was
anything hi-po about it unless that equipment was ordered on the car. I know
Mopar collector's Guide had a Challenger WSS featured a while back. Check out
their site for back issues.

I wasn't aware of the article until you mentioned it, I have ordered a back
issue from MCG, I just hope they aren't sold out of them yet. Does anyone out
there have a copy they could loan me, make copies of the article, or scan the
article and email me the pages? I would be happy to re-imburse for any
reasonable expenses encountered for this service. Just let me know.

I have also sent a letter off to Galen Glovier of Mopar Muscle magazine in
hopes he may be able to shed some light on this subject.

I am going to open a new web page set aside strictly for information about the
original Blues cars, both the Barracudas and the Sebrings. It will take a day
or so, but the url will be http://members.aol.com/roberte151/bluesmobile.htm.

Thanks for any more help I can get on this. All input is appreciated.
