Onlysaving grace is having both Earthquake and Stone Edge for coverage and being a common spawn which means getting a second move and candy is easier. He also doesn't have a double weaknesses to fighting like Tyranitar

Hi, there! Well, he was living for his hype before the status formula changing. He was going to be on par with Tyranitar as rock attacker and would have better TDO than Groudon. He was supposed to be quite a monster.

Now? he still is quite decent and not exactly useless. Has above average stats, access to two powerful sets and is easier to have for less priviledged trainers. I could even say he is a Jack of All Trades and he has some space now for Heatran raids and the future Dialga raids.

Who knows what Niantic has for the future? Rhyperior still has his signature move in Rock Wrecker or His learning of Earth Power. Should we have a Rhyhorn CD in the future, featuring his shiny form, could be something.

There was a guide about it, I think it was about the "second charge move recommendations". Rhyperior is not good on PVP especially on master leagues because of the high amount of counters that is present there, specially machamp ou kyogre. His usefullness now is strictly for raids for now.

Far too many weaknesses, including two double ones, and types common to PvP doesn't really make it a good choice. If we could choose a team of six, then it probably would be a good candidate, but with only three it becomes a bit of a liability.

Not every pokemon is good in PvP, the over lap in raids and PvP is quite small, Just because a pokemon does well in raids doesnt mean it will do well in PvP and vise versa. I have fun with my rhyperior in training agaisnt the instinct leader because it counters Zapdos which groudon cant.

Well it is the best Rock attacker for anyone who has missed both community days and the best non-legendary Ground attacker. Can't be amazing in PvP with 2 double weaknesses anyway, but it is a decent alternative to both Pokemon you mentioned and candy is relatively easy to find.

I have one that fit just within the Ultra league with no investment outside of a stone, so I evolved it for the dex entry. I have used it in a few battles with relative success. It helps if the team is composed of counters to its greatest threats (flying for grass/fighting and electric for water). But, to be honest, I just don't enjoy using it as much as I do other mon. I have a 100% and a level 35 96% Rhydon that I'm saving for potential exclusive moves.

In the gym/raid meta though, it is a solid second place for both ground and rock. With a CP of 3700+ it is unlikely to be useless. If you write it off you might as well write off gyarados, raikou, entei etc.

Not great in PVP, but very useful in Raids and for Gym Clearance. Yes he's slightly below Groudon - but still a very good ground type and not many players have the candy to max 6 Groudons... Similarly he's slightly behind CD Tyrannitars, but who has 6 high stat maxed CD Tyrannitars? He might not lead my rock and ground teams, but he tends to fall in 2nd or third place.
