UN Special Codes

Hi,

I am doing a UN Comtrade query and then selecting HS88/92 as product classification, all 6-digits HS codes

Looking at the product tree I notice the codes from 271011 to 271099. They are designated as UN Special Codes. I looked for some documentation on what these are and I could not find any.

I am particularly interested if these industries are just sub-industries of the 271000 industry. More specifically, are the imports for e.g. 271011 already included in the imports form 271000? If so, if I want to know all trade flows for a country, if I have data on 271000, I can ignore 271011. Otherwise I would be double-counting the trade flow. However, if 271011 provides information on a trade flow which is not included in 271000, then, if I want to know all the trade flow for a country (in a certain year), I will have to include the flows for both 271011 and 271000.

"Special codes 271011 to 271099 were created to ensure continuity of SITC Rev.3 codes of 334* (Petroleum Products) that somehow were simplified (merged) in Harmonised System 1988.
Therefore, the codes 271000 and  2710XX are mutually exclusive (code 271000 does not contain values in 2710XX). In addition, in order to get the total of petroleum products, you should select heading 2710, instead of aggregating 271000 and 2710XX."
