Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Mainframe Developer with over 10 years of hands-on experience to support core banking systems at Capital One. This role focuses on the end-to-end development, troubleshooting, and optimization of mission-critical mainframe applications. The ideal candidate will have deep technical mastery of the legacy stack, a strong ability to perform root-cause analysis, and experience delivering high-quality code within an Agile environment. This is a hybrid position requiring regular onsite presence in Richmond or McLean, VA.
Key Responsibilities & Required Skills
Core Development & Programming
- Full-Lifecycle Development: Write, test, and implement complex code using COBOL, JCL, and REXX.
- Transaction Management: Develop and maintain online transaction processing systems using CICS.
- Database & Storage: Perform data modeling and management within DB2 and VSAM environments.
- Automation: Build and optimize batch job streams and automation scripts using JCL and REXX.
Troubleshooting & Optimization
- Root-Cause Analysis: Diagnose and resolve complex production issues and performance bottlenecks.
- Component Implementation: Lead the implementation of major software components for large-scale financial projects.
- Performance Tuning: Ensure the efficiency and scalability of mainframe applications through rigorous testing and debugging.
Agile Collaboration
- Team Integration: Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, providing technical input on story grooming and sprint planning.
- Communication: Clearly communicate technical progress and blockers to the development team and stakeholders.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate technical documentation and system specifications.
