I also love to put together design boards for front porches! Last year, I put together this post: 3 Front Porch Decor Ideas and I often share porch mood boards on my LTK here. Keep on scrolling for more ideas!

I had to wrestle with a few here and there to get them to sit the way I wanted, but overall, this super simple DIY quickly turned into a sophisticated and lush garland. It looks far more expensive than it cost and I love the dimension it adds to our porch.

Addicted 2 Decorating is where I share my DIY and decorating journey as I remodel and decorate the 1948 fixer upper that my husband, Matt, and I bought in 2013. Matt has M.S. and is unable to do physical work, so I do the majority of the work on the house by myself. You can learn more about me here.

If you take the Austin stone off just in the peak above the window of your office, it would then match the peak above the gable over the front door. Having the porch railings on the right side of the front makes it less obvious that only the left is covered in Austin stone.

What a surprise to see you here today! I probably would not be on, but am nursing a sore throat which feels as though it might turn into something worse, ugh! I love front porches. I have one the whole width of the front of my home. It is such a relaxing place with the swing and wicker seating spread out. I would have to agree with some of the others regarding making the gable larger and extending the porch in front of your office window. If money were not an issue I would extend the porch all the way across the front. Having the porch roof go all the way across would keep the direct sun off of all your front rooms. Thus helping with cooling and prevent fading. I agree with you about the spindles. What is in the photo shopped pic is too busy and takes away from the house. As for the carriage doors on the garage, I have them and they are white with the hardware all being black. That is just my look. My entire home is white 10 inch aluminum siding. The porch railings and square spindles, as well as the large round columns are also white. The porch is brick as are the steps and step walls. It is what I love and what I wanted. It is a very southern house and very unusual for this part of the country. I will tell you, that after almost 25 years of living here, when I pull into the cul de sac and see my home, I still love it as much as the day we moved into it. So do what you love, you will never regret it. Blessings

I love love love the photoshop picture. I even like both gables, it gives the house character!! If the porch gable came out father than the ston gable it would make better sense. I like the railing either way. The Chippendale style is the better, in my humble opinion!

How about three gables? Perhaps another gable above the livingroom windows on the right. If you brought the middle section/gable out a bit further you could even extend the deck and railing to the end of your office, (to the left) which would mirror the right side of the veranda (this section need not necessarily have a roof)

I am thinking trim both gables out in wood and paint them white as in the farmhouse exterior by New Hope Builders photo, so the gables will coordinate. The Austin stone is beautiful but a bit dark making the left side of the house look heavy and the right side light. The Austin stone adds so much charm and character, which is free since it is already there. Maybe lighten it up by white washing the stone to keep the character while balancing the visual weight between the two sides.

Double check with the city/county, etc before removing the stone, you may find that the stone adds value to your house. (Siding is cheaper than brick or stone and taxed accordingly and requires far more maintenance. That is why many homes have brick on the public sides and siding in the hidden backyard.) Matching the stone for the rest of the house front could really increase the house value.

I like both of your photoshopped pics, but I LOVE the second one with the bigger porch. It seems to somehow balance the look of the front and The Austin stone is not as prominent. The curb appeal is fabulous in that one. It makes you want to pull up a chair or two and just sit there watching the world go by.

You have so many projects going .I would finish them before i would think about redoing the front of the house. It is a lot to take on. Also that way the inside would be done . And all your time could go on the front of the house.

5. Remember, sometime the little things like a porch railing, a few plants, different colored shutters can make a huge difference without spending a ton. Of course your new porch and second gable will be the big costs. I think those would be a great start!

How about changing the inside and switching your front entrance and office so that you create a new front entrance where the already existing gable is and your iffice is where the front entrance currently is? I like the idea you have shown existing the gable, just suggesting a different option.

One way you could tie the stone in with the rest of the house would be to use the same type of stone as the base for some craftsman/bungalow style porch columns. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like the craftsman/bungalow style porches would fit well with the characteristic Texas ranch house type of architecture! At least I can see the two styles merging in my head, though I am not familiar with what the homes in Texas look like. Do you see craftsman-style influences there?
Good Luck with your porch!

I also tried the double gable within a gable front porch option and that looks very nice as well. If you want to see the 3-D cad renderings of both options, let me know how to get them to you. They look great.

When I found out that our offer was accepted, I instantly started dreaming of what to do with this porch. There are a couple obvious updates required: the carpet is old and worn, and the ceiling fan is too small and dated.

The black leather chairs were a splurge, but we wanted high quality chairs that would be comfortable and last for years. Our cat is known to destroy almost any fabric upholstery he can get his claws on, so we decided to go with leather for the accent chairs. The chairs have a black strap detail paired with walnut legs, deep seat, and sloped arms. I am anxiously awaiting their delivery!

The sofa is from one of my trade vendors and we chose custom upholstery and a walnut leg finish. We ordered about 10 samples and literally scratched them with a knife to see which ones might stand up to cat claws! Thankfully I think we found a good option in a beautiful light greige color (similar to, but not the color shown above). I wanted a bench seat for a modern look. The walnut sofa legs will tie into the coffee table and the chair legs for a cohesive look.

I love all the areas of the porch, but sitting in the wicker chair is my favorite place to drink my morning coffee. I keep a little round table by the chair for drinks and books, but I moved it when taking photos for the challenge to better show the items on the plant stand.

In the inspo photo there are two matching wicker chairs, but I am only using one (resin) wicker chair in this little sitting area. There is also an area rug pictured in the photo, but I am currently still on the hunt for the perfect rugs for the various seating areas on the porch.

To make this recent estate-sale chair find more festive for the holiday, I covered the old, worn floral seat cushion with navy blue ticking stripe fabric from my craft stash. I dug my star pillow out of storage, and since I was already using red pillows on the porch this patriotic look was easy to pull together.

Since I already had a basket of ferns on the second shelf, I used a blue and white chinoiserie style pot filled with faux ferns and three mini-flags on the top shelf. The little lantern has been on the plant stand for a while.

Before I share a full porch tour next week, I want to share a peek of my favorite view as I sip my morning coffee in the wicker chair. I love how the early morning sunlight filters through the trees on the far end of the porch. I finally found enough flag buntings to go all around the porch, and after a little more decorating I plan to share a full summer porch tour before the Fouth of July!

Thanks Diane! We moved in just before the Fourth of July last year and we were in the middle of renovations so I am just now really getting the porch styled and useable. It will be fun to decorate for the holidays for sure. Thanks for stopping by!

Because I love all pumpkins, I opted not to stick with a specific variety or color. I simply selected the ones I liked. I love that there are so many varieties and colors of pumpkins and gourds to choose from.
