After two heating seasons, I devised a way to clean out the upper "V" arms. I drilled a 1-1/2" hole at the vertex of the top "V". Then I used a 5/16" carriage bolt, an 1/8" thick by 2-1/2" diameter steel disc and a 2" long slotted steel piece. The head of the bolt and the toggle piece are inside. The disc has a hole in center to pass the bolt thru, and then a lock washer and nut are applied to pull the disc against the outer surface of the stove. I used a hi-temp glass matt between the disc and stove surface. When I opened it up, the top arm of the upper "V" was more than half full of fly ash, and the bottom arm a bit less so. It probably wasn't a fire hazzard, but I intend to clean out the chimney pipe this year and I knew there was no way to clean out the upper "V" ........with my installation there is no way to move the stove outside to run a hose through it. I now run a flexible brush into both arms of the upper "V" through this new hole.
