Not in my backyard versus say for all. Only with the wisdom of crowds pressing questions of the future can be resolved. The fourth estate, which Consultative, is their mouthpiece. Our democracy is no longer able to do without them.

Democracy in Crisis? Politics everywhere? Mockery and anger of citizens as Stuttgart 21? This is only one side of the coin. On the other, more and more people are demanding a say and power to shape. Major projects such as the energy transition requires the support of all, and to all have to actually be involved in advance. In many places, activists now discuss, for example, of routes of power lines. Still too rarely, but increasingly there will be a broad and thorough consultation of citizenship before laws are developed and adopted. We are in the midst of the participation revolution. Patrizia Nanz and Claus Leggewie, passionate champion of participation and the democratization of democracy, calling for the institutionalization of future councils, a nationwide network of consultative bodies from the local to the European level. They have developed this concept not only a pioneering model, but long support citizens actively help win back political maneuver. Together they work out viable solutions to current issues such as the placement of fugitives or decades frozen conflicts such as the disposal of nuclear waste.

I wish I read German.  I was able to have the notification about the book translated in case anyone would like to see it.

Dear Jean und dear Jim!!!

I am guessing your are getting some news - in case you haven’t here is an update:

Vorarlberg received its 2nd prize for the WC around the refugee issue.

Patrizia is bringing out a book promoting Civic Councils Vorarlberg style:

It will be presented by the President of the german parliament, Norbert Lammert, during a press-conference at the german government in Berlin. Manfred will be part of the discussion panel. If I get pictures or a film I will send you the link.

Also here’s a fun article on the Salzburg WC from the ORF (like NPR) … I ran it through Google translate ..

JIm
