Wisdom Council News January 2015!
Dear Friends and Supporters of the Wisdom Council,
We are well overdue in keeping you updated about recent events! Here are some of the highlights.
Last fall Tom Atlee, Rosa Zubizarreta, Dan Ferstenberg, Martin Rausch, Jean and Jim Rough worked closely with a group in Asheville helping them to set up Asheville’s first Community Wisdom Council. The local conveners were Susan Michael, Gaya Erlandson and Kerry Lindsey. They set this up – practically without any resources other than their personal time and effort. Thanks to journalist Jordan Foltz, we had good media coverage for the Community Wisdom Café. You can read the newspaper article here.
The Wisdom Council was held Oct 10-11th 2014. Martin managed to pull together resources for filming it and Dan F. created a website for North Carolina called www.wisedemocracync.org To view some of the interviews Martin made, you can go to his Youtube playlist. You’ll see some of the resonance and trust that developed, along with the enthusiasm to continue. Also you'll find in the playlist some very informative interviews with Jim Rough about Wisdom Councils and Dynamic Facilitation, and from Tom Atlee and Juanita Brown on co-intelligence and the art of facilitation.
From the footage, we are creating videos to promote Wisdom Councils and train people in how to do them. For example, here is a link to the summary of the Community Wisdom Café in Asheville, where the Wisdom Council presented its results. Your community could be next!
Martin has also started an Indiegogo campaign to help set up and film a Community Wisdom Council in hot spot areas, like Ferguson MO or NewYork City. The goal is to illustrate how the Community Wisdom Council can support us to come together beyond polarized politics and co-create a public agenda. The footage shot from a Wisdom Council in NYC will be used for both TV-coverage and for the documentary The Blindspot.
One way to support our ongoing progress is to make a deductible donation through the nonprofit Center for Wise Democracy here or support the campaign on Indiegogo here. (If you choose to support the Campaign, please keep in mind that it ends January 25.)
And we recently learned that there is a way that purchases through Amazon can help fund our nonprofit the Center for Wise Democracy (CWD). Here is how it works. You go to the website smile.amazon.com and it will ask you what nonprofit you would like to support. You sign into their system and choose the Center for Wise Democracy (we hope!). From then on make your purchases on smile.amazon.com. Automatically Amazon will take 5% of your purchase and pass it to CWD. It is an easy way to give without opening your wallet. Please spread the word to others!
Currently, the financial support we receive for CWD is focused for:
- setting up and filming Wisdom Councils in hotspot areas;
- setting up and filming the next Wisdom Council in Asheville NC in spring 2015;
creating material that will be accessible for your own learning or other purposes.
There will be a Dynamic Facilitation and Wisdom Council Seminar in Tubac AR, just south of Tucson, on May 5-7. You can register at http://tobe.net/calendar/rapidcart-12/Tubac-AZ.html. Beautiful setting!
We will have more news to share soon!
Kindest regards and our best wishes for you in 2015,
Jim and Jean Rough, Martin Rausch, Rosa Zubizarreta
