Dear Antediluvians, World Masters Rugby Group and friends,
Brian Heffel passed away peacefully Friday January 11th, at Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Hef was an incredible person who excelled at everything he did in life. Superb athlete and competitor, teacher and mentor, and for many a great, loyal, inspirational teammate, friend and family man.
Brian was a legendary member of the Strathcona Druids RFC. He helped coach the Edmonton based Antediluvians Old Boys RFC to our bronze medal at the 2005 World Masters Games.
Ironically, it was while attending the memorial service Friday for another great rugby player and coach, Dutch Holland, at Ellerslie Rugby Park when the news broke as we were all getting the first drink at the bar, where Brian's Edmonton Rugby Union founders beer mug proudly hangs.
A funeral service will be held at Strathearn United Church (8510 - 95 Avenue Edmonton) on Saturday January 19th at 2 pm.
Also there will be a celebration of his life at 4 pm on the same Saturday, January 19th at Ellerslie Rugby Park , located on the North East corner of 111 Street & Ellerslie Road, Edmonton.
There is more information on Brian in today’s Edmonton Journal obituaries. Please feel free to forward any condolences to eger...@is2.ca.
Seize the day, enjoy the ride, and keep good rugby friends and health!
Rest In Peace Hef!
