Friends, Freaks, Lovers and Lofers!

Your friends at Great Lakes Experimental Arts, Inc. are ever-so pleased to announce:

LAKES OF FIRE 2012 (IT WAS ON FIRE WHEN WE GOT HERE)

Thursday, June 21st, - Sunday, June 24th
Lucky Lake Campground
3977 West Wilke Road
(Enter on Winston Road)
Montague, MI 49437
(Rothbury exit)

Unfortunately, due to overwhelming demand, Lakes of Fire has reached capacity for 2012. G.L.E.A. Inc/Lakes of Fire is not co-ordinating any further ticket sales at this moment, but fear not! There are very likely to be people getting rid of their tickets in your area. People's plans change, and tickets will be cropping up in the lead-up to the event.

Start here to begin your search!

Other good ticketing resources can be found here!

This event needs its Art Grants Program! Donate directly to this critical fund by following this link: http://www.lakesoffire.org/artgrants/

Lakes of Fire volunteer organizers insist, in a friendly way, that you read the Survival Guide, found here: http://www.lakesoffire.org/survivalguide/

====LoF========)*(========LoF===== CAMPING: You know you love it!

Lakes of Fire has primitive camping and porto-potties, and that's
it. Rely on yourself for your survival.

Lucky Lake Campground also includes a freshwater, no-wake,
no-gas-motor lake with over a mile of shoreline and catch and
release fishing, but no lifeguards. Be well aware that you swim at
      your own risk.

Lucky Lake's 180-acre site is also equipped with several trails
and dirt roads. Bikes are welcome, but be aware: mountain bikes
will get you around more easily.

If you're not used to camping, you can find information on what
      you need for camping here:
http://www.lovetheoutdoors.com/camping/checklists.htm

Failure to bring these necessities will result in way less of a
      good time.

LEAVE AT HOME:
Fireworks – they are not welcome at Lakes of Fire
Guns or weapons of any kind
Pets – aside from ADA-qualified assistance dogs
Glass – a serious impediment to our Leave No Trace Principle. Cans
      are preferred.
Illegal substances of any kind.

THEME CAMPS
There are several theme camps (those bringing interactive camps for the whole community) seeking tickets for key members of their crews. If you have extra tickets and would like to help, go here: http://burntickets.org/lakes-of-fire-tickets/ If you want contact info for these camps directly, write Plac...@lakesoffire.org!

General registration for theme camps is open until May 25th. Camps
having sound are required to register by May 18th. It is in your
interest to register your camp early so the Placement Team can
help with your needs. We will be contacting registered camps
beginning this week. If you haven't received an email thanking you
for registering, you may not be registered.

Please contact the placement team if you have not gotten this
      email.

SAFETY: Watch it!
Lakes of Fire is a 76-hour outdoor event. You're expected
to rely on yourself for all your basic needs.

Please prepare for rain, wind and other extreme weather. Failure
to do so may result in way less of a good time.

Beware of toxicodendrons-radicans (poison ivy). Leaves of three?
      Let it be!

West Michigan is home to a variety of wild animals. Take measures
to ensure food and trash are secured and stored where raiders
cannot find a meal, make a mess, or create a health hazard.

If you're severely allergic to bee stings, or bug bites, please
take the appropriate precautions. A once-over check for ticks
before you leave is a good idea also.

Please be aware that there are no lifeguards on duty on the
beaches of Lucky Lake. Swim at your own risk, and always with a
      buddy.

We encourage self-reliance in all situations but some medical
precautions are in place, including a volunteer medical team and
an on-call ambulance if needed. More information about our medical
procedures can be found here: http://www.lakesoffire.org/survivalguide/#medical

====LoF========)*(========LoF=====
PRINCIPLES: How We Do It!

Burning Man and Lakes of Fire's 10 binding principles are simple
      and can be found here:
http://www.lakesoffire.org/tenprinciples/

The distilled version is this:
1) Ask first
2) Protect the community
3) Leave no trace

Except for the landowner's firewood and ice sales, there will be
no sales or concessions of any kind at Lakes of Fire. Sorry, you
      can't hawk your wares, period.

Over the course of the next five newsletters, your friends at Team
Info-bot will be covering EACH of the Ten Principles in pairs!
      Here's our first efforts!

RADICAL INCLUSION
Anyone may be a part of Lakes of Fire. We welcome and respect the
stranger. Except for being a ticket-holder to Lakes of Fire, no
prerequisites exist for participation in this community.

GIFTING
Burning Man is devoted to acts of gift giving. The value of a gift
is unconditional. Gifting does not contemplate a return or an
exchange for something of equal value. In this way, burners create
an abundance for our community - everyone brings something to
      share!

====LoF========)*(========LoF======
CONCLAVE PRE-EVENT SAFETY MEETING

Fire Art Safety Art (F.A.S.T.) and Fire Conclave at Lakes of Fire
will be offering Fire Safety Meeting for Lakes of Fire spinners
before the event in three locations around the upper midwest.

We would like to offer this to our communities to ensure people
esp newbies understand how LOF F.A.S.T. is handling Fire Safety
and get people trained so they don't have to do it on site. All
performers will still have to check in to receive laminates and
updates at the event. Check the map for where we will be located
      when you arrive on site.

We encourage people who have tickets and would like to perform in
conclave at Lakes of Fire to fill out the application; http://www.lakesoffire.org/fireart/
