Happy Springtime!
Thanks again, you wonderful LoFers, for using our new ticketing
procedures for 2015! The Lottery has begun! While it’s true that
demand will still very likely outstrip supply, your friends at
G.L.E.A. 501(c)4 believe that this new system will be more
satisfactory for all involved, and especially, will resolve those
really annoying bottlenecks!
If you won the lottery, you have until 4.22.15 to finalize your
purchase, in which time you may allocate your other tickets to fellow
registrants of your choosing. After that, unsold tickets will revert
to the waitlist, for a purchasing window that will open later. Check
here for more ticketing details.

There’s also a very useful FAQ found here:

Get all excited, because the Effigy burns in less than 66 days!

VOLUNTEERING
Opportunities to volunteer will go live shortly AFTER ticket
purchasing opens. We will be able to help you get involved in the
Fabulous Contraption very soon!

SURVIVAL GUIDE
This year’s Survival Guide is HERE! So be sure to read it thoroughly,
if you’re into surviving!
http://www.lakesoffire.org/survivalguide/
Seriously, read it! First-timers should read ALL OF IT! It’s critical
info that you absolutely NEED!
NO TRAMPOLINES
Trampolines are NOT allowed at the 2015 Lakes of Fire Event, under
G.L.E.A. Insurance. To bring a trampoline you must purchase and
provide a Certificate of Insurance that includes the Sponsor of event
and Property owner as ADDITIONALLY INSURED and submit to GLEA Board by
6-10-15. Questions can be addressed to

COMMUNITY DONATIONS
Every year, your friends at G.L.E.A. Inc 501(c)4 donate some of your
money back to the local Western Michigan communities in which Lakes of
Fire operates, and without which, there could be no Lakes of Fire. We
operate as part of the towns of Rothbury, Montague, and the greater
Muskegon area, not apart from it.
At the end of 2014, we gave $2,000 to New Era Elementary School’s art
program in New Era, Michigan.
http://neweraelementary.mi.sse.schoolinsites.com/ On March 17th,
Principal Pranger called our G.L.E.A. Community Liaison to express her
great appreciation and gratitude for the donation. They are very
excited to use it for getting more art to the students, and they plan
on sending us an update on the use of the funds. Ms. Pranger was
extremely grateful to us and couldn't say enough good things about
this donation.
G.L.E.A. Inc. 501(c)4 has also received a thank you letter from the
Grant Township Volunteer Fire Department, in thanks for our $1,000
donation to that organization. You can see a copy of that letter

SURVIVAL GUIDE
The Survival Guide is, in many ways, LoF’s most basic document. It
outlines our policies on everything G.L.E.A. has a policy about, and
is your most thorough review of how to participate, get involved, stay
safe, and be a maximally LoFing participant. If you want to bring
fire, art, an art car, a theme camp, a ___you name it____, the
Survival Guide is the info you need to know. There is new or changed
information found in Gate, ArtHub, Ticketing & Entry, DPW, Leave No
Trace, and Fire Art & Safety (F.A.S.T.)
http://www.lakesoffire.org/survivalguide/
First timers are STRONGLY encouraged to read all of it. It will take
ten minutes or so. Some of the information changes, every year, so
returning LoFers are also encouraged to check out any section that may
pertain to you.
The purpose of the Survival Guide is both to inform AND facilitate all
types of participation! Know what’s up, and help us help you to become
an integral part of the Fabulous Contraption!

LEAVE NO TRACE: The Prime Directive
Leave No Trace is arguably our most cherished principle. This means
that we must leave the site in better condition than we found it,
showing absolutely no evidence of our having been there. Each
participant must remove all items they brought with them – including
their trash – when they leave the site.
Lakes of Fire MOOP Warriors employ the 7 principles of the Leave No
Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, as follows:
1.) Plan Ahead and Prepare
2.) Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
3.) Dispose of Waste Properly
4.) Leave What You Find
5.) Minimize Campfire Impacts
6.) Respect Wildlife
7.) Be Considerate of Other Visitors
The member-driven Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics teaches
people how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly. This copyrighted
information has been reprinted with permission from the Leave No Trace
Center for Outdoor Ethics:
www.LNT.org
We also ask that each participant helps clean the full site by picking
up any Matter Out Of Place (M.O.O.P.) that they encounter during the
event. Smokers, bring a portable ashtray so you don't have to drop
your butts on the ground. Please bring trash bags and other waste
receptacles to take your trash and recycling home with you. It's
everyone's job to Leave No Trace.
Lakes of Fire can always use more MOOP Warriors for LNT Tent shifts,
MOOP Loop parades, and Restoration Ninjas. Volunteer online at
http://lakesoffire.org/volunteer/

CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY: Step up and be counted.
We at G.L.E.A. value civil society. Community members who organize
events should assume responsibility for public welfare and endeavor to
communicate civic responsibilities to participants. They must also
assume responsibility for conducting events in accordance with local,
state and federal laws.
Civic responsibility isn’t just about organizers though. We all have a
responsibility to be a part of wider community, and be protective of
each other, and to support creativity! We exist as part of the larger
society, not apart from it! Our community definitely extends to the
surrounding area, which is why we strive to be good neighbors on a
variety of fronts, including giving back to local institutions, being
respectful with our sound levels, and carrying our trash all the way
home!
We’ve also got a quick and fun take on Civic Responsibility right here:
https://soundcloud.com/lakes_of_fire/civic-responsibility
That’s what we’ve got for you this time.
See you at the FABULOUS CONTRAPTION!
xoxo,
