Emergency Response Drill Planned for July 17 July 9, 2014 [cid:_com_android_email_attac...@sec.galaxytab]

On Thursday, July 17, the University of Wisconsin-Madison will conduct a full-scale emergency response exercise from approximately 7 am to 5 pm.

The exercise will be held in and around Camp Randall on the UW Campus and will involve emergency personnel and vehicles from Madison Fire, Madison EMS, UW Police, FBI and other local emergency response agencies.

The exercise is designed to improve the university's response to emergency or disaster situations. Because the drill will involve a high degree of realism, actors posing as "victims" will appear to be injured. UW Hospital and Clinics will participate in the drill as "victims" are sent to the emergency departments of all Madison hospitals for treatment.

There is also the potential that members of the community traveling in the area will see police officers with weapons drawn as part of the exercise. UW Police ask that people continue to go about their daily business.

UWPD will have signs posted explaining that the activity is only an exercise, and officers and volunteers will be positioned around the area answering questions.

At times during the exercise, officers will limit movement into the area, but will try not to cause inconvenience for anyone living or working nearby.

This exercise will concurrently be held in the CSC/AFCH. All staff are expected to participate in the Code White (formerly External Disaster) just as if this were a real event.

Management has received information about this event. In our facility, the exercise will take place near the cafeteria, on the first floor of AFCH, in the Emergency Department and the bridge to the VA, among other places.

We exercise, or train, in order to be better prepared in the case of a real event.
