Using a PIR KumoSensor Outside in Conjunction with Wemo Light Switches

I was curious if the PIR KumoSensor was designed to be installed outside or not. What I would like to do is use multiple PIR sensors mounted outside to trigger both or either the front or back porch lights which are controlled by Wemo light switches.

I have had a PIR outside now for 2 months. I have covered it in insulating tape and its under a window ledge so protected from heavy rain. it was NOT designed for outside and you will void the warranty but I have it as a driveway alert and it works great.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.

Would you or anyone else happen to know whether there are any other motion sensors out there that are rated for outside use and could be used with the Wemo light switches?

Hi Josh

I look at them all and ended up using the PIR from these guy for several reasons but mainly as the alerts are instant. I have tried TXT ones but they can have a delay. The New PIR's have a sensitivity option and can eliminate false alarms. my outside PIR can trigger my wemo or I have a kumoapp that beep another tag. so I place the tag next to my bed, and it beeps when someone walks to my front door during the night.

Ok, thanks again Steve I appreciate the feedback on your past PIR research and that it works with the Wemo. I'll likely be giving it a try.
