Hello, i would like to link the Tag manager using a switch with a sim.

what i would like to know is how can i compute the traffic consumed so i wont buy a sim package that is too low / too high.

thank you.

I would probably get a pay as you go sim and do my own measurements over a period of 1 month once I had the tags set up to transmit as frequently as I desired, and go from there.

Support are quite erratic, so I would be surprised if you got a reply fast, if at all sadly.

The other thing you could do is connect up the tag manager to your machine via a switch or something and run wireshark to see whats being sent?

update:

i called my ISP and asked him to help me monitor the network traffic on the SIM that the wireless tag manager is connected too.

in 5 days the traffic was equal to approximately 10 MB!!!

That does sound like quite a lot, how often did you have the tags reporting back and how many tags did you have? You would think that decreasing tags and or frequency would have a large impact, unless the tag manager just calls back to the server every x minutes anyway. Perhaps its worth taking the batteries out of all your tags and repeating the test?

That being said however, over a month 50MB isn't that much, at least in the UK most low end sim contracts would give you at least 50, something like three pay as you go is a penny a MB, which would just cost 50p per month...

i have two tags with an update period of 30 minutes.
i will repeat the test without the tags and update.

Interesting, so basically you are doing 4 updates per hour. 96 Updates per day, or 480 over that 5 day period.

That means that each update is 0.020 of a MB, or 20KB per update. Sounds like a hell of a lot to me...

Please report back!

i'm by no means an expert, but perhaps the ethernet manager will cache some data if it can't contact the main server, in which case if your router supports it you could try blocking internet access and only allow say an hours access per day...

I believe wireless tag pro's cache the data to the tag itself, so this could be another option if the above doesn't work
