I purchased 5 water sensors, expecting that they'd arrive with the tape that disengages the battery until they are ready to be used. However, all the sensors seem to be active. I was hoping to store 3 of these sensors until the batteries die on the 2 I will be using. I would have purchased only 2 had I known the others can't be stored.

Is there any way of disengaging the batteries until I need the sensors? Will it preserve battery life if I stick them in the freezer? Any other suggestions to give me some value out of the 3 I won't be using immediately?

Thanks

Pete

Just open it up and remove the battery.  It's meant to be replaceable, after all.

Pete, the batteries in the water sensor are not replaceable.  From the web page blurb on the sensor:

By removing the piezo buzzer from the tag, we made room for a CR2450 battery which has 3x capacity than the battery used in our regular motion sensor tags. The circuit board, together with the battery have a water-proof coating. The battery will last for typically 3 to 4 years is not replaceable.

If you are handy, you can:
1. Buy CR2450-G1A battery w/ 3-pin PCB mount, at Newark for about $1.50 each (w/ modest shipping $)
2. Desolder the existing 3-pin battery from the PCB
3. Install new battery buy soldering into PCB in exact same locations
A little bit of work, but if you buy 5, tot ~$15 w/ shipping, its $3/sensor, which beats the hell out of buying new sensors for $24 a pop.
