If your tag manager was 4 years old it must have older firmware. We also continuously improve the circuit board production process.
I believe that on average our hardware lasts longer than most other equivalent home monitoring devices. This is based on the majority of our Google Business Reviews (Search Cao Gadgets on Google Map) and my limited personal experiences with various home security cameras including Drop cam, nest cam (about 1 year), various early version of arlo (about 6 months), Feit electric camera (from Costco, which only lasted 3 months). In fact, 4 year sounds a lot longer than even some WiFi router are supposed to last (I just had to replace a ASUS router due to increasingly worse WiFi connectivity after 2-3 years of use, though the router only costed below $50)
I would also point out that unlike most other home monitoring companies we maintain free, fast and unlimited Cloud service and do not charge monthly or annual fee. We keep upgrading hardware (like was just done today at
my.wirelesstag.net, you should notice the slightly better response time of the app and web interface if your tag manager is hosted by
my.wirelesstag.net) and maintain the data (e.g. rebuild index etc to ensure fast graph loading speed). From our point of view, if the hardware lasted forever, this would have been an unsustainable business model since only the cloud operating cost will exponentially increase and eventually outpaces the profit from hardware sales.
