Layout, westpane, set width?

Hi!

I am looking for a possibility for setting the initial width of the
westpane in a Layout (the splitpane kind of thingy).

As far as i understand it the width is rendered as an element style,
not in the css file, but i am not able to find where this is done in
the sourcecode.
