In case you missed it in the other thread, here is the address for the
new mailing list. John set this up, because Google is dropping
support for files later this year. Actually, they're just pushing
people toward Google Docs and other services, but it appears that
Yahoo! will have the better generic file dump to accompany the list.

Better being a relative term, of course.  I very much prefer the collaborative editing and flexible permissions settings available in Google Docs and have always found Yahoo Groups' file system archaic and clunky.

Well, sure. I greatly prefer Google's tools over Yahoo!'s, use Good
docs daily, etc. But what does it really matter for this particular
list? John wants to use Yahoo!, so we use Yahoo!.

I prefer a one-stop shop that has (1) downloadable game files, (2) a
sign-up facility for reprints and (3) forums for discussions. Since
Google is eliminating the first 2 of the 3 from their Groups, I see
Yahoo as the alternative. I have used the Yahoo group "AgeOfSteamGame"
for years now (it has 435 members) without problem and it retains all
three features in one place.

Tim Harrison has my big thanks for setting up this group during Derk
Solko's deservedly short reign as BGG's chief. That was very kind of
Tim. It both gave BGG pause and delivered a large dose of reality to
Scott Alden.

If anyone has a problem with using the Yahoo group or can suggest a
better alternative, please chime in!

I'm not complaining about the switch, merely pointing out that the criticism of Google's decision was a bit strongly worded.

I'd be interested in learning more of the story with Derk.  Can you post a link to some BGG threads?

Send me a personal email if you want more on the story of Derk, Ed.
This Group (and the Yahoo Group) are about our games, OK?
