ActorSanjay Dutt on Tuesday said he hopes to make the much-awaited third part of Munna Bhai series soon as he marked the 20th anniversary of the first film, Munna Bhai MBBS. Released in 2003, the critically-acclaimed comedy drama was directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
The film chronicled the story of an affable goon, Munna bhai (Dutt), and his sidekick Circuit, played by Arshad Warsi. Munna Bhai MBBS, which also featured Dutt's father, cinema icon Sunil Dutt, as well as Gracy Singh, Boman Irani, Rohini Hattangadi and Jimmy Sheirgill, was a major success at the box office and has amassed a dedicated fan following over the years.
Munna Bhai MBBS was followed by a 2006 sequel Lage Raho Munna Bhai, which was equally praised by critics and fans. It also starred Vidya Balan with Dia Mirza and Abhishek Bachchan appearing in cameo roles. The makers had released a teaser video for the third part more than 10 years ago but the project continues to be in limbo.

The entire Bollywood industry wants to cash in on the nostalgia factor by developing sequels to evergreen movies. The producers might be thinking that if the strategy has worked pretty well so far, then why not exploit it more? Amidst this, Sanjay Dutt dropped a post as he celebrated 20 years of his iconic film, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. In his post, he hoped that the third installment of the franchise would happen soon.
The original Baba of Bollywood shared a sweet video from the movie and wrote, "Sanjay Dutt - Two decades of laughter, emotions, and a whole lot of jadoo ki jhappi! Celebrating 20 years of Munna Bhai MBBS, a journey filled with unforgettable moments. Grateful for the love and support that made this film a timeless classic. Hoping that Munna Bhai 3 will be made soon!"
We know Rajkumar Hirani is currently busy with the promotion of his upcoming film Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan, but we would love it if he noticed Baba's wish in the post. Rajkumar Hirani, are you listening?
For the uninitiated, the third part was supposed to happen; however, things didn't go as planned. The movie was titled Munna Bhai Chale America. The audience was eagerly waiting for the third part, and they still do because the comments on Dutt's post were proof. A person wrote, "Munna bhai, 3 pakka incredible hogi." Another individual added, "Definitely Phaaji waiting desperately for munna bhai 3 and countinues." A comment read, "Bhai ne bola Karne ka to Karne ka."
It was 2003 when filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani introduced iconic characters of Munna Bhai (Sanjay Dutt) and Circuit (Arshad Warsi) to the world with his iconic comedy film 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S'. To date, the movie is living rent-free in the hearts of moviegoers, courtesy Sanjay and Arshad's perfect comic timing, Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra's partnership, and of course the story.
Interestingly, the makers continued tickling the audience's funny bone with a sequel to the immensely successful 'Munnaibhai M.B.B.S'. In 2006, Sanjay and Arshad reprised their roles of Munna and Circuit in 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai' and successfully managed to make audience laugh with a touch of "Gandhigiri". With both the films, Sanjay and Arshad's characters earned a cult fan following.
He said, "Munna Bhai ke sath humesha mera struggle yehi raha hai ki pichli do films itni achi ban gayi hai ki mere paas 5 aadhi likhi scripts abhi tak padi hui hai... (The struggle with this film is that the first two films were blockbuster hits and I have five half-written scripts. I feel that if I don't reach the level of those two films I won't be able to make the third one. I have one story that can be made but some stories get outdated so only time will tell.)" "Meri aksar baat hoti rehti hai Sanju (Sanjay Dutt) se. Woh kehta hai ki ek banani chahiye. Abhi ye 'Dunki' khatam hui hai toh ab main kholunga pitara purani kahanio ka. Man toh hai ki ek Munna Bhai aur banani hai pr kab woh mujhe abhi nahin pata. (Sanju and I often discuss about Munna Bhai 3. He also tells me to make it. Dunki just finished...now I will go through the collection of the old stories that I have. I really want to make 'Munna Bhai 3' but I don't know when)," he added.
Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Anil Grover and Vikram Kochchar are also a part of 'Dunki', which focuses on the issue of immigration. Its title is taken from the term "donkey journey", which refers to the long-winding, often dangerous routes that people across the world take to reach the places they want to immigrate to.
