for a good home. Litter trained and eating solid food.
Mother tested negative for Feline Leukemia & AIDS. (have documentation)

Great news they found a home.
To all those that inherit kittens, use the Winnipeg Sun. The ad is free if you're not charging for
the pet. You will get a lot of replies and can be very choosy in who you choose to be the next
caregiver.

I didn't even think about using the Sun, but is good info ... thanks for the
heads up.
Between newsgroups, and 3 or 4 buy/sell websites all kittens were gone
within 2 hours.
Which makes me wonder why all the animal shelters have such a difficulty
finding homes for kittens etc.
Perhaps the adoption fees? Makes you wonder.

Well the adoption fees are always a way of knowing that people who are
paying them really want the animal rather than just picking it up because
their kid wants one.

By giving them away for nothing you have no idea what kind of creep is
picking up your kittens and by not putting a price on them you show you
just want to get rid of them and don't give a rats ass about them.

You really never know where the creeps are - that's the sad fact. Another is that if you charge for
a kitten its almost impossible to find a home for the poor thing. Who would pay for something when
you can get it for free in a number of places? Makes no sense. Whereas you can charge for most
dogs, cats are really, really hard. Usually the only people that end up paying for cats are people
that don't realize there are hundreds, if not thousands available every day in this city. The
simple fact is they are often not advertised and they get passed along, word of mouth, usually when
a young child "has to have" the cat. A week later they "have to have" a video game. And the cat is
ignored. That's why its imperative for people that are rehoming a pet to have a liberal return
policy. I've seen cats cast off in the most deplorable conditions. Usually from people that treat
their children not much better. Substance abuse and pet ownership should never cohabitate.

I resisted wading in on this, because (frankly) it's way, way, way to
depressing. But, you've hit the nail on the head and you've hit a nerve.

There are far to many "heartless" people that don't give a single lick about
cats. They're free right, so what's the value? They're worthless. They
breed "like rats." they "live off anything" so they come and go.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I don't expect you will) but is there anything
specific that differentiates a cat from a dog, a gerbil, a hamster, a
rabbit, a chicken, a fish, a cow, a deer, a horse, a pig or a (yep) human?
Is there? They are all sentient beings aren't they? They all feel pain,
they all need food and water, then all try to live and breed.

Why is the life of a cat so much "cheaper" then the others?

I used to live South of Wpg and immediately South of a very large dairy
farm. There were always feral cats that needed to be shot. I moved into
the city a few years ago, but going back over the past 15 years I've
probably had to introduced at least 10 cats a year to .22 lead poisoning. I
must be a pretty sick bastard, eh. We trapped probably twice as many as we
shot. My neighbour the dairy farmer has a MUCH larger tail/tale to tell.

The problem is that we had our own animals and we couldn't have
old/starving/diseased/hungry cats, showing up on our yard. We had to
maintain our own bio-security. Compounding the problem (for both my
neighbour and I) was people "from town" that would drop off pregnant cats
outside the neighbours dairy farm.

It doesn't seem too much different in the city. Nobody spends the money to
"fix" their cats and they're left to wander and breed at will. And breed
they do. Then the pound gets filled up and everyone shits on V.B. for
turning on the CO2. Or whatever they use now.

The shelters don't have problems finding homes for kittens or puppies, it's
the older animals they have trouble finding good homes for.
