Images are not shown: how am I supposed to place the control points?

I have created a morph project, selected two images, and it even does
the render (which by default, without creating any control point, is
just a cross fade).
However, I can't see the images anywhere in the interface. I see two
rectangles, one on the left of the screen and the other one on the
right. I would expect to see the images there. In the online
tutorials, you see the images there. Instead, the rectangle on the
left is pink and the one on the right is brown.
Is there a fix for this or is the program simply unusable?
