In the Boston Science Museum there some images drawn on cones that are
only clear when looking directly at them with one eye. I have been
attempting to create cones with the same effect using WinMorph. I keep
getting closer but I am not quite there yet. If anyone has every done
this and have the render shapes I would like a copy.

Here is where I stand now. I first made a cardboard cone and drew
circles around the grid. Then I drew a grid with lines that would look
parallel if viewed directly at the cone. I then cut open my cone and
I could see what the finish image should look like.

Next I create the same image that I saw on the cone and opened it in
WinMorph. Now I have been doing different manipulations to Warp the
image into my goal. I saved the .mrf file. I renamed the image that I
wanted to put onto a cone to the same name that was used in the .mrf
file. WinMorph was able to warp the image to be used on a cone.

The problem is that it is far from perfect. It is much better than
when I started.

If I am successful at this I plan to put some in the Maine Discovery
Museum where I volunteer. I will also upload the .mrf for others to
use.

Sounds to me like it some variation on anamorphic projection or
Anamorphosis. There are books (and some hard to find software) you
probably want to study. Rather than morphing software that was created
for a different (abeit similar) purpose, which probably explains why
you haven´t succeeded in your endevour. Anyway good luck with your
endevour!

Thanks Olaf. In less than 5 minutes I found anamorphme, downloaded
it, opened it, imported my image, turned into a cone shape, printed
it, cut it out and made a cone. This is exactly what I was looking
for.
