Why do they ask for a password? Seems very strange to me?

For some sites such as MySpace we ask for username and password so
that we can verify that the profile belongs to you by logging into
your MySpace account one time (and one time only) and getting the
public URL of your MySpace profile to display on Wink. Then we
completely forget about your MySpace username and password. We don't
store it *at all*. After doing this your MySpace profile will show up
as a verified site for you, because you have proved that the MySpace
account belongs to you by giving a correct username and password for
it.
It is also possible for you to add your MySpace profile without
providing your username and password. You do this by using the
"Other...URL" section of the "Add My Links & Places" page. Just put in
the URL of your profile and click on "Check URL." This will add it to
your Wink profile but mark it as not being a verified site, since we
weren't able to confirm that it belongs to you by using the username
and password.
Which option you choose depends on your goals and your comfort level.
Please let me know if you have any further questions about this or
anything else regarding Wink.
Thanks!
