The next version of Wink is now starting in limited beta and I'm signing up a small number of early users.

You can join the beta at https://winkit.in.

Over the years Wink was distributed for free, one common theme of discussion was the lack of time on my part to continue development and support the wonderful users who use Wink. Many users even offered to donate and help support the development. I'm committed to developing and supporting the new version of Wink better, and to aid with that goal the new version of Wink will be paid software. The beta will run for at least 2 months and requires a small one time fee of $4 to join.

This beta is designed specifically for creating tutorials of mobile apps and websites. You can capture screenshots from your android phone and upload, edit the project in your PC web browser and quickly publish and share. In a few weeks time I'll be expanding the beta to also work well for tutorials about desktop software.

Wink beta is no longer dependent on Flash and generates HTML5 compliant tutorials so they can be viewed on any modern web browser, including mobiles. I'll be adding the most requested features such as high quality audio support to the beta in the coming weeks.

It would be really useful to have you all as part of the beta programme so you can influence the development of Wink according to what is important to your workflow.

Is it that you have a different phone (iphone?) or don't want to try tutorials for a mobile app / website at all?

The PC version of the capture & upload tool will be ready as soon as next week and I'll be announcing that here. If you want to sign up for the beta now and try things out by uploading screenshots from your phone, that would be great. Or if you want to wait and sign up after the PC capture/upload tool is available, that works too.

I want to beta test the PC version. I create tips and tutorials all day long so the PC version is a better fit for me. I can try it out, and my job wont see me messing with a phone. Not to mention the phone app seems very limiting. I cant believe android doesn't let you make screen capture videos without root.

Satish -

Just a heads up that I'm trying to sign up for the beta and I get a message that says "unable to save billing details, please try again".  I've tried multiple times with multiple types of cards and get the same behavior.

Victor,

Yes unfortunately android and iOS don't allow capturing the screen outside your own app, for security reasons (same security reasons don't exist on PC i suppose!). Whether it is the PC or android app, they will only do the upload of screenshots. All of the project editing/preview/publish happens in the Wink website so if you have time you could try out the full experience now with the android app to upload screenshots.

Anyway, the PC capture/upload tool would be ready soon and I'll announce here.  Looking forward to having you in the beta :)

Got stuck with some tricky issues, nearly there. Thanks for your patience :)

Although let me clarify that this beta is not aimed at completely new set of features, rather its the start of a new release cycle.. so please have very low expectations at the start and I promise as it gets stable the new features will get added and make it worth!

Hi Satish,

I would like to join the beta testing, but I don't have a credit card I use Payal for internet payments is that an option that can be added, I realize you are busy with the program but this is something I think a few people would prefer.

Hi Steven,

Yes I'll be adding a paypal option soon. In the mean time you can create an account at http://winkit.in and send in your beta payment via paypal to 'sat...@visualgear.com'. I'll then activate your account.

I'm in too.

For the record, I think that Wink 2.0 was the best bit of free software ever.
The enhancements I think it needed were:

Ability to do input driven capture on windows 7 64 bit.
Ability to set it to capture a few screenshots following each input, (Where a window opens or closes after clicking a button, and the opening or closing is missed because only the initial click is captured).
Upgrade to save to HTML5, instead of Flash, now that Flash is not fully supported.
Performance when deleting early screenshots in a large (>2000 image) capture.

I would contemplate paying more money for a product that did this, and I could feasibly implement more widely at work, as there are 10 consultants who would benefit from this.

The things that would prevent me from using it more are:
Inability to edit and save captures locally.
Uploading and manipulating on a remote server would not be an option for the >2000 frame captures I do, and for the commercially sensitive nature of the captures.

Hope this helps to guide the progress !

Ian.

Hi Satish,

I am very interested in using Wink to create tutorials within the company where I work.

I think it is a great software which concentrates all the features needed to do professional and complete tutorials: it’s as flexible as I can wish. I congratulate with you about that.

However, I have a trouble with the captures on click mouse, which don’t work on my 64bit windows 7 PC. How can I solve this issue? I tried the web version, but I don’t want to publish tutorials on the web (I want to use the .exe format because users are not always connected as they travel all over the world) and I need the feature allowing to add an audio file afterwards.

Thank you very much for your answer
