July 4, 2010
Dear Family and Friends,
What an exciting month! So many things have happened and we would
love to share with you what the Lord is doing here in Nicaragua.
In June a group of 9 people came down from the Cohutta Seventh-day
Adventist Church in Tennessee. They were able to help the church in
Santa Rita replace their roof and then went over to Tasba Pain
(pronounced “pine”) to help that church prepare a new veranda for
their church. They were here for 12 days and accomplished a lot.
The first day that the group was here, they helped complete the house
we were building for a widow in the village. We started the project
many months ago and had just finished the roof a couple weeks before
they arrived. They were able to finish and install all the doors and
windows.
The other main item to finish in the Widows house was the chimney. It
is the only house in the whole village with a chimney. All the houses
in the villages only have a kitchen with open fire cooking stoves.
The smoke is not contained or directed out of the building. This
results in many women with red and irritated eyes and respiratory
problems. Now with a chimney in this new house, at least this family
will no longer have smoke in their house. We are hoping that from
this example house that people will learn to build chimneys for their
kitchens.
One of the ladies in the group was Marty, a nurse of many years.
Marilyn enjoyed having another nurse around and when they could break
out of the kitchen the women visited the elderly and sick in the
village. This elderly lady (pictured) is actually the Widow for whom
we built the house. She was very sick the week before and we were
able to give her medicine, food and prayers.
The last couple days they were able to assist us here at the mission
compound to finish some smaller projects, like enlarging the cement
floor in the hanger and pouring a cement counter with sink in the
bathroom.
We are Thankful for all the big and little projects that they were
able to accomplish while they were here.
On a more personal note, we would like to announce the birth of
Marilyn’s nephew, Jonathan Edward Liss, the son of Robert and
Katherine Liss. Congratulations! Second announcement: Marilyn is
also please to announce that her sister Lynette is planning to marry
Ted Quinty in September 2010 near Berrien Springs. Congratulations to
her also!
For those on Facebook, don’t forget we update Facebook much more often
than we send out newsletters. You can keep in closer touch if you
follow us on Facebook. It is accessible without a membership from our
web page.
We want to give Thanks to the Lord for the recently completed
projects:
• The airplane hanger is up and has cement foundation posts and an
enlarged cement pad for working on it and engine runup.
• The house for Widow Erlinda
• 51 medical evacuation flights since we started.
• Hundreds of patients seen during medical mobile clinics
We would like to present to you our current and future projects and
needs for your prayers. The Lord promises in John 15:7-8 that if we
abide in Him, what we ask for will be done so that God can be
Glorified. So we are asking that you pray with us for these projects
and needs.
• New industry for economic improvement (producing coconut oil)
• Clinic building needed
• Education – health, hygiene, spiritual
• Laptop – needed for educational purposes
• Upcoming September trip for Lynette’s wedding
• Pathfinders
• Weather detection instruments for the plane
• Aviation program - New runways in remote villages, sick patients
We pray that the Lord will be with all of you as He has been with us
lately.
Sincerely,
Clint and Marilyn Hanley
