Hi,

I'm using WinFSP+SecureFS since many years. Recently, I got a Samsung EVO T5 external usb-c drive. I also have an NVMe ssd drive in my Windows 11 laptop.

I can read and write to both my internal and external ssd at ~300MB/s

When creating a WinFSP+SecureFS volume on my internal drive, I don't see a real performance impact. I still get ~300MB/s

However, when creating a WinFSP+SecureFS volume on my external usb drive, read speed drops to ~10MB/s and write speed to ~3MB/s

Does any one have a clue what the issue might be ?

I'm only testing throughput so far, not random IO.

This happens with both WInFSP 2022.2u1 and 2023. as well as SecureFS 0.14.2 and 0.14.3

Regards. Patrick!

Replying to myself. SecureFS author put me on the track of srite caching (https://github.com/netheril96/securefs/issues/170).

Disabling "quick removal" on this ssd-drive seems to restore performance. However, I need to add that dokany+cppcryptfs was perfectly able to write at ~220MB/s with the "quick removal" enabled on this drive.

Does that make any sense ?

Regards!
