I have the new version of an app (Dragon NaturallySpeaking 13.0 Basics)
that installs well but does not run.
The prior version (12.5) ran well with vcrun2010.
I have been informed that 13 needs a later version. But winetricks only
goes up to 2010, although I have seen references to installing 2012 and one
other.

You need to update your winetricks. The latest 'release' is at
http://winetricks.org/winetricks (which has vcrun2012 and vcrun2013).

Bleeding edge is at https://winetricks.googlecode.com/git/src/winetricks,
please try that before reporting issues
