WhenI was using photoshop I was able to buy Kyle Webster custom brushes. These don't work in Affinity. What do I use for custom brushes? Are there natural looking brushes that come with affinity or that can be purchased? I'm really concerned about how I'm going to draw, paint and erase to look like art rather than computer obvious stuff.

The Kyle Webster brushes are actually Tool Presets. These will not work with our apps. However, Photoshop Brush Presets, .abr, can be used with Affinity Photo. You will also find Affinity Photo brushes to download in the Resources section. Also, check out some of Paolo's brushes, they're great :)

Hi! I believe the paint brush tool in adobe animate is either broken or has a severely bad intended UI. I have spent 1+ days trying to get it to work to no avail, and I have found articles showing that the code is "Deprecated". Basically, I go to to the brush library to add custom brushes to paint with. I double click to add to document, however, the brush is never active -- my output when I draw is always the same dynamic brush, and I have no otpion to use any custom brushes. I go into the properties tool for the brush or the dynamic brush and it never gives me stroke options or style options. What do I do!? You'll notice that even though double I clicked on "Caligraphy 1" to add it to the document, I still got a normal dynamic brush, and, I have no actual options anywhere that I can find to actually change the stroke options or the brush style. When I click on fluid brush in the top right too nothing happens. I'm so confused and beyond frustrated. Need help.

I'm actually having the same problem. My lines when I draw are very pixelated and I can't seem to change the brush settings to smooth it nor change it to a custom brush. I added a picture below of my screen. I have the smoothing to 100 and Im using the brush tool but it doesn't change anything. Can someone help?

The Fluid brush and Classic brush are fill based brush tools. The brushes available in Brush Library (Art and Pattern brushes) works on the stroke. Please use a Paint Brush tool to draw with the brushes available in Brush Library.

Here's the video of the problem I'm having. I still have the problem regardless if I use the painttool brush or the classic brush. No matter what I do, the brush stroke stays the same and it's pixalated. It's still doesn't smooth and I can't use any of the brushes in the library. I'm not sure what to do.

Hi - from the video i could see that the seelcted Brush is not getting seelcted as a Stroke Style in Properties panel when Paint Brush is used. Have you double clicked the brush in Brush Library? Also can you please check whether the brush is getting listed in the stroke style drop down in PI?

ok I was able to use the different brushes. thank you! as for my other question, in the video, the smoothing is not working? I don't know if that's how it's suppose to look like or if it's pixelated? Is there a way I can tell?

In the bottom left of the tools is a three dots button. That lets you load in other tools that are not showing at the moment. I think that by default two of the brush types are showing, but you may be looking for the third brush type. See this screenshot to see if it helps.

Hi - Classic Brush is a fill based brush and it doesnt draw strokes. If you are looking at dawing strokes then use Paint Brush tool which you can drag and drop from the Edit tool bar to main tool bar as described by Colin in the above thread.

For an airbrush:

1. Go to the plugin section and download Sabrown100's Custom Brush plugin. (It's stickied)

2. Find the "Share Your Custom Brushes here" and look for usedHONDA's post on the first page. After running the Brush plugin once, download usedHONDA's brush and extract it to My Documents\Paint.NET User Files\Custom Brushes. Restart Paint.NET, run the plugin, and on the left pane, there should be an airbrush. Enjoi.

I'm assuming you realize those steps are talking about a custom brush plugin and custom brushes. (Unfortunately we don't have any plugins by a Sabrown100, not according to the plugin index anyways.) However, we still do have a custom brush plugin, the one by Simon Brown (not Sabrown). And it is Simon Brown's plugin to which we have already pointed you towards.

No misunderstandings here? That's good.

The above ^ info came from this link:

-air-brush-and-spray-paint-effects/

When you scroll down (link above), you will notice that some one else was looking for the same thing which subsequently developed into futher dialog

which reveled a name (UsedHonda) that had developed such a thig and where one could get this.

At this point, it looks like either no such thing exists or if it did, it was pulled as it was an old post "2008"

UsedHONDA did not develop an Air Brush, but what he did do was he made a custom brush that has an air brush pattern (spray pattern). The current custom brush plugin that can use this brush is CustomBrushesMini, By Simon Brown.

Also, David.atwell has given you a direct link to usedHONDA's post, where you can get that spray patterned brush. The only issue which might be here, is I'm not sure if the "how to install" is still accurate. (my brushes go in a personal folder on an external hard drive, so I don't follow standard instructions to know if they are up to date.)

If you haven't already, try CustomBrushesMini and the brush with a spray pattern. Here is a link to "How to Use Custom Brushes" : -how-to-use-custombrushesmini-v19/

Note: that tutorial suggests abrviewer for files that are not png, but the most recent abrviewer didn't work for me. So I use abrMate.

And finally,

In the end of the thread you are referencing to, the OP did not succeed in getting what they were looking for. They appreciated the suggestions, but the suggestions weren't what they needed.

Thanks Frozen, but that is not quite what I was looking for. Actually, what ncfan posted (thank you very much) is closer to a "spray paint can", but unfortunately is not interactive enough for my needs.

An airbrush is similar to a "spray paint can" but with a sizable brush, variable spray density and a variable transparency. You use an eyedropper to absorb the surrounding color(s) and "speckle" it over an area so that "blemishes" are removed. It must be interactive with the existing image to be effective.

Now unlike Pepperami, the custom brushes might be fine for you, especially since the current custom brushes plugin is an updated plugin. Or, if you are looking for a certain effect to apply to an image, perhaps there is a different way of doing it. For example, in Pepperami's case to remove blemishes, there are lots of other ways to remove blemishes in paint.net.

Hello,

I am trying to figure out how to make the paint tool paint the entire closed area, and not leave a border against my brush stroke lines. Do I have to do my final drawing in pencil to avoid this issue? I posted a picture down below showing the problem.

You are using a bitmap brush and painting on the same layer? You should have better results drawing on the Line Art layer and filling with colour on the Colour Art. You would have to create colour art from line art. Check the docs for Creating Colour Art from Line Art: -15/premium/paperless-animation/about-art-layer.html

Can you choose any of your custom tags by clicking on the drop-down menu button, like in this screenshot where the button says Digital?

And if you set it to All again, are there any of the brush presets you thought you lost?

Seeing that you found your resource folder already, if you open it again there should be a folder called paintoppresets in it that contains your brush presets.

Do you recognize any of the files in there as the brush presets you made? If you are on Windows, I think you only have the filename to go by, while on Linux or macOS the file manager can show the same preview image that Krita uses for each brush preset (because the file is recognized as a PNG).

Even custom brush presets that you deleted in Krita should still exist in this folder until you use the Delete Backup Files button under Settings > Manage Resources, or delete those files yourself.

Are you sure you explicitly saved your custom brush presets? Did you use the Overwrite Brush or Save New Brush Preset options in the brush settings menu?

Did you click the little trash can icon in the brush settings menu to delete the presets?

When and in what circumstance did you notice that other presets were missing?

What blacklist files did you delete in the resource folder and are they still gone? Also did you close and restart Krita at any point?

The file stating which brush presets to exclude is called kis_paintoppresets.blacklist in particular, and Krita only checks it upon restart.
