I have an asus eee 1000HA running windows xp and ubuntu, dual boot.  I keep it updated.
Today I booted up and went to look for a wireless network, and it said no wireless networks detected.  But I know there are dozens of networks, because I can see them when I boot into ubuntu.
I rebooted in win xp, still couldn't see any of the wireless networks.
I ran the troubleshooter in the Atheros client.  All the tests passed except the association test.  It says, "this test is to check your client adapter's association to an access point."  The result was "your client adapter is not associated to an access point.  Solution:  configure the radio card and set SSID and other properties."
So what should I do now?

Are you using XP's zero wireless config or a third party wireless config program? note, you can only use one at a time. I would try uninstalling any third party wireless config utilities and try using XP zero wireless config.

I went to Device Manager and uninstalled my wireless.  After that, windows apparently detected the hardware's existence
and found drivers for it because my wireless works again.
The only funny thing is that when I boot ubuntu (on the same computer) it detects many more networks than it does when running win xp.

Ok, I assume you are running SP3 or have installed this update http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=1974

Otherwise, you can't join Wi-Fi networks using WPA2 security.

That is strange how Ubunta picks up more networks but. You still didnt tell us what utility you are using in XP, i.e. inbuilt "zero wireless config" or maybe an Atheros wireless utility etc.

Over the years I have found the inbuilt XP utility the most reliable. I usually just install the driver but dont install the 3rd party utility.
