Same Update keeps needing to be installed

I have Windows XP and have updates from MS set to occur
automatically. This is usually not a problem but now I have a
problem. When there's an update, I'm asked to let the update take
place when I go to shut down the computer. Windows runs the update
and then shuts down the computer itself. I've had that happen
countless times over the years. About a month ago, however, I was
asked to do this, and while it appeared to be working, the next time I
booted the system, I got the same message when I went to shut down
Windows. I accepted that and I accepted the offer a third time.
However, this keeps showing up every single time I try to shut down
the computer. Is there any way that I can somehow disable this
specific update or force it to happen and not be asked for again? I
don't understand what is going on. Thanks.

Set windows Update to auto download, manual install. Then those
advanced, when the computer want to install the hotfix, uncheck the
hotfix and click next. Now you will be asked if you want to
permanently disable the hotfix.

I don't remember exact what to do, but it's some thing like that. ;)
