The 'Windows' Google Group is now under new management, thanks to the
generosity of Mattie, who had owned the group but had let it lie
fallow until now. When we (the channel operators of the ##windows
channel on Freenode IRC) approached him about letting us use the
group, Mattie was more than accommodating, and we are in his debt.
Thank you Mattie!
What this means, in the short term, is that we will be keeping the IRC
channel guidelines and FAQ-tual information here, instead of the old
jot.com pages where it resided before. We've moved the bulk of that
content already, and soon will be using these links in the IRC
channel. Within the coming weeks we will remove the old
jot.com
content and place redirector links sending the traffic here, to the
groups.google.com web pages.
But what happens next? Given that Google Groups can handle discussions
in both web and mailing-list ways, and also serve up files in addition
to web pages, we can augment the ##windows IRC community with the
ability to hold longer-term discussions. So GGroups may turn into a
slower-moving adjunct to the IRC channel; or it may build a community
of its own, or it may do both. We welcome all of your suggestions on
the matter!
In any case, the doors are open. Let's find out what we can do with
this new space!
