Hey all,

People expressed interest in having the chi-square analysis completed before Thanksgiving, and meeting before the break to discuss it. Please fill out this when2meet asap so we can determine when we're meeting and consequently when our analysis should be done by.

Looks like 8pm tomorrow or 10pm Tuesday works for everyone! I would prefer Tuesday but can do both.

Hey guys,

If anyone has looked at the lab assignment, could you possibly answer the following question?

For the first part, is it saying that all three ads are actually causing people to become MORE favorable towards smoking (because the average attitude is higher) meaning that they are all ineffective?

Thanks,
Arav

No Im not sure that's right- I think you run ANOVA for the control group vs all the other three so control vs emotion, control vs cognitive, control vs social..then you look at the f value and compare it to the critical value- you'll see that it is statistically significant and conclude that they are effective…I think that is how you answer the first part? What does everyone else think?

Yeah, thats what i did and for the first part saw that the cognitive and social ads were significant in changing attitudes. But i think what Arav means is that the control group average is lower than the ads at 2.7 vs 4.4,4,5. In our handout it says the lower the value, the more unfavorable the attitude toward smoking which would suggest that ads make a significant favorable change in attitude toward smoking. but that makes no sense rationally.

Yeah I noticed that as well..that’s pretty strange..not sure..the question is asking if the campaigns are effective in changing attitudes so I guess based on the anova analysis they are but it is unclear which direction- do we comment that it seems the attitude change is positive? Also for finding the most effective would this be testing cognitive vs social, cognitive vs emotional etc?

Ok just kidding, I interpreted the results incorrectly- Arav was correct..I am kind of confused now though, how do we go about determining the most effective ad? Is it the one that did NOT produce a statistically significant result (emotional)?

can we conclude that? or just say that none of them were effective in attaining the goal

Think i'm going with none of them are effective, but emotional is the one i would refine because it does not negatively impact attitudes.

I would prefer Tuesday as I have not yet had a chance to analyze all the data but if you guys want to do tomorrow can we do it after your staff meeting Jannel?

How about we just meet after break, like on Sunday or something? I think I am getting sick again, and this will give us greater time to analyze the data. I am sorry about being flaky with this, I just didn't expect to get sick again :(

Hey,

Sorry to hear you're sick Duaa-- Would it be possible for the rest of us to meet on Tuesday to discuss where we are at that point and then Duaa can email us her results when she has them?

-Steph

I think I can make it then, I am not sure what will happen! Hopefully I can though.
