The letter below might be something you want to share with your family
if you'd like to have a guest in your home for a few months. Note that
this is for an adult teacher who is here in Maine.

To: Mr. Keller, advisor to WHS Key Club

Dear Mr. Keller:

I am writing to you regarding a unique educational opportunity that
could benefit members of the Key Club. For the past 6 years, the
Windham school Department has participated in the AFS Visiting Teacher
Program. Each year, we've had a teacher from China or Thailand spend
the second half of the school year with us. It has been a wonderful
experience for our students, teachers and the community to learn about
other cultures from natives of China and Thailand.

This year we are looking forward to having a man from Thailand who is
a seasoned English teacher and thrilled to experience life in Maine.
Daeng teaches English, computer and sports to middle school students
in Thailand. He is married with two daughters. He is currently
living in Vasselboro and teaching at Erskine Academy. Bill, his
current host "father", has lots of positive things to say about
Daeng. "He is a young 49 and very athletic. He is very polite,
flexible, fastidious, and self-sufficient. He is a non-smoker and
likes dogs. He is very helpful with household chores. Bill says the
house has never been cleaner! He has enjoyed stacking wood and mowing
the lawn. He needs help understanding the nuances of American
English, but is not afraid to ask questions. He is very computer
savvy." In short, Bill and his wife - they have no children at home -
are enjoying Daeng immensely.

Daeng will be arriving in early February and staying until the end of
the school year. At this point we do not have a host family for
Daeng. Would you mind sharing this information with your club? Host
families provide room and board for the teacher. All that is really
needed is a spare room and a willingness to have a teacher become a
member of the family for two to five months (two families could share
the time). Hosts can have students in the school system, no children,
be retired or be single.

Please let Kari Suva at 892-7240 know if any of your students would be
willing to participate in this amazing experience or know someone who
would or if you would like more information. Thanks for sharing
information about this special cultural opportunity!

Sincerely,
Kate Brix
