I use two pair of socks under the booties. Either thin men's nylon dress socks or polypropylene socks against the foot. Then i pull on medium thick wool socks. My feet stayed warm in 23 degree weather at Carlyle in 1996.
We did a lot of winter sailing in '96. Check the Feb 4, 1996 session report linked below:
I was able to get over 100 hours sailing on Carlyle that year. Chris and I were competing for Carlyle hours. :-) We wrote reports for every sailing session that year. It would take hours to read them all.
For those interested in old session reports, go to http://groups.google.com/group/windfunstl/ and click on the "About this Group" link on the right side of the page. You will then see a calendar from which to choose the year and month to read session reports and other posts. Some group statistics are also there to view.

I just read my long winded 1996 session report and noted that I wore 3 pair of socks that day.

Rich, that session report is just off the charts. I remember when you posted it thinking: I think he's had a nervous breakdown. Who the hell sails at Carlyle, by himself in 23 degree weather?
A classic for sure. Ted you have a ways to go.
