Hello Everyone

I am a 4th Year undergraduate Electrical Engineer at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
Currently I am in the process of trying to find topics for a prospective masters project for next year and I have an idea but i'm not sure quite how to proceed with it at the present moment.
Also I was unsure what research group this came under so I posted it in general discussion group for now.

I am currently researching in the area of failure rate analysis for offshore mega multi megawatt turbines, and I wondered if the same sort of analysis has been performed on the smaller scale wind projects.
The key objective of my research is to find the areas of the wind turbine that have the highest proportion of failures to aid the operation and maintenance strategies for the turbine sets.
This could help to predict which areas of the turbine need the most development in manufacture and maintenance.

Hopefully this is something that could be useful analysis for the wind energy for development team in the future.

Regards

Hi Andrew,

I'm gael from WE. I'm in charge of the maintenance Working Group.

We are actually working on a online survey to get the failure rate of homebrew Small Wind Turbine. At this stage we are working on the survey questionnaire.

The aim of the survey is to know the proportion of failure to help the community with preventive maintenance and also to modify the design... So i think we are talking about the same thing.

I can show you what as been done so far and it would be good to have a look from the big wind industry point of view...

Gaël.
