Tai Chi/Qigong for Wellness Classes

South Hills Location: 1840 Mayview Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017

By masters from Win-Win Kung Fu Cultural Center, the only authentic Chinese martial arts school in town

Tai chi, which originated in China as a martial art, is a mind-body practice in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Tai chi is sometimes referred to as "moving meditation"—practitioners move their bodies slowly, gently, and with awareness, while breathing deeply.

Qigong, chi kung, or chi gung, literally "Life Energy Cultivation", is a practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness for exercise, healing, and meditation.

With roots in Chinese medicine, martial arts, and philosophy, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance qi (chi) or what has been translated as "intrinsic life energy".Typically a qigong practice involves rhythmic breathing coordinated with slow stylized repetition of fluid movement, a calm mindful state, and visualization of guiding qi through the body.  Qigong is now practiced throughout China and worldwide, and is considered by some to be exercise, and by others to be a type of alternative medicine or meditative practice.

From a philosophical perspective tai chi/qigong is believed to help develop human potential, allow access to higher realms of awareness, and awaken one's "true nature".

In the classes we lead and instruct students to practice the tai chi/qigong forms approved and recommended by Chinese Wushu Association and Chinese Health Qigong Association officially:

  • Selected Tai Chi forms
  • Eight Pieces of Brocade (Ba Duan Jin 八段錦).
  • Muscle-Tendon Change Classic (YìJīnJīng 易筋经).
  • Five Animals (Wu Qin Xi 五禽戲).
  • Six Healing Sounds (Liu ZiJue 六字訣).
