Hi all,
I am mainly a Windows developer but working on moving to ROS /
OpenCV / C++ on Linux. I went cold turkey on my laptop with Zorin
during a recent trip to the NASA Sample Return Robotics Centennial
Challenge. Now I need to move further into Linux.
I thought asking some Windows folks who have a better appreciation
of what I do not know about Linux might be constructive.
My robots will run with standard PC motherboards, USB web cams, and
USB controllers. I have not gotten into using a Rasberry Pi over
Ethernet but that is a possibility. My development environment will
be a desktop PC and probably a laptop PC for field work.
I know ROS is "best used" on Ubuntu and I am fine with that or Zorin
on the desktop / laptop. I will need all the office suite, etc.
On the robots I want a stripped down version of Linux. Zorin has a
light edition that may have many of applications removed but I would
also like to reduce the footprint of the OS by eliminating unneeded
services. What those are I have no idea but it seems to make sense.
LOL
Please, suggestions on desktop and embedded Linux versions for this?
