Dear all!

Just a reminder that the call for articles for a special issue of Musicological Annual (https://revije.ff.uni-lj.si/MuzikoloskiZbornik/about) (Editor-in-chief: Dr Katarina Šter),  is still ongoing. As you may know, this issue will be dedicated to interdisciplinary topics in academic music research, especially focused on computational musicology and MIR.

We seek contributions that either explore new possibilities of music research with digital tools or critically observe the collaborations between the IT and academic music research worlds. As Johanna Drucker implies, "the humanities are not a mere afterthought, simply studying and critiquing the effects of computational methods. Humanistic theory can provide ways of thinking differently, otherwise, specific to the problems and precepts of interpretative knowing - Our challenge is to take up these theoretical principles and engage them in the production of methods, ways of doing our work on an appropriate foundation.” (Drucker, 2012) On the other hand, we must acknowledge that computational experts do not only provide the methods, but are instead opening up new spectres of music research, thus, have become a crucial factor in the development of academic music studies.

The goal of this issue is to acknowledge the contributions from current and possible cooperations in the field of IT-related music research from any scholarly field: we are aiming at critical debates on advantages and disadvantages of the both, academic music studies and IT approaches. Burke has noted that “workers in one discipline are not always aware of what is happening in some of the others.” (Burke, 2009) Since we believe that different fields of music research may gain the benefits from the IT experts just as they can benefit from the field of more "analogue" music research, our aim is to discuss the processes and forms of IT-related issues of music research regardless of their formal academic positions.

Topics

*Digital / algorithmic / computational / e-/ music research
*Sound and music computing
*Critics & reviews of published works / books / projects that fall under one of the three categories above.
