I've been using wimas3 on a project and so far have found it a very
nice library! It hasn't posed too many problems, and it certainly is a
nice way to integrate AIM support into AS3 apps.

Recently, however, I found some room for improvement: I was getting a
408 error which turned out to be a problem with AOL's AIM servers.
Unfortunately, it led me to find out that wimas3 is swallowing most
error events when it really should be throwing them, which would
provide some hooks for meaningful feedback. What I really wanted to
see was an error state or error events being thrown by the wimas APIs.

I might be adding these error states into the wimas3 code. Would you
be interested in these sorts of contributions?

Thanks,
-Dan

Hi Dan! Thanks for using the wimas3 library!

You are right about the error codes being swallowed up - something we are planning to address. We have to solve this without creating a lot of code overhead or complexity to the end-developer. Your interest in contributing to making wimas3 better is very much appreciated, so we'd love to see a patch of your changes.

Out of curiosity, are you using wimas3 in a Flex, CS3 or pure AS3 or AIR project?

Thanks,
Rizwan

+1

Funny story:  While that error was happening, i quickly changed the code for AIM Express so that it shows a nice error message if the session state changes from SessionState.STARTING to SessionState.OFFLINE.  I did think about making a change to wimas3 to help handle this but couldn't think of a better way to capture the state change.  Curious to see your idea for this.

Also, if you want to provide a link to your project, we could put it on the wimas3 site so folks can get a sense for the different apps folks are working on.

I haven't gotten a chance to add any code to wimas3 yet, but I'm glad
to hear you're open to patches. Hopefully I can get to it soon.

Also, I'll have a link to the application shortly (which is an AIR
app, Rizwan, btw), and I'll post it here once the site is up. It'd be
pretty cool to see it linked from your project.

Thanks,
Dan

If you're still interested, I can now say the URL to the project is
http://www.apprisereader.com. It's a feed aggregator that allows you
to share stories, and currently has AIM (with wimas3!) and Twitter
support. We'd love to get some feedback, and are already planning new
features and fixes. You can see how I handled errors without error
state events, though I still hope to work on that feature for wimas3.

Hi Dan,

We've added Apprise Reader to the links page. Thanks for using wimas3!
I noticed that the app got reviewed by downloadsquad.com. Very cool!

I'm interested to see how you handled the error withouth error state events.

Thanks,
Rizwan
