I have students who consistently bring Disney Music books to the lesson after Christmas Holiday. They are so excited to learn something from Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid. .. that is until I teach them one of those songs and it turns out to be pretty darn hard for beginners to learn, or very (yawn) boring because the melody just keeps repeating over and over and over.
I played a flute & accoustic guitar version of nothing else matters by metallica. (No vocal) play the melody for a while improvise for a while, helps if you improvise a bit both on and off the melody, etc, even come back and play the melody straight for a while, etc.
Yah pop songs just are kind of strange without the lyrics. Movie soundtracks actually have loads of choices that are great on flute. You can find many favorite melodies from movies. Love them! Rebecca

Sally Horak Hundemer is the principal flute of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. She earned her BM in flute performance from CIM in 1971 studying with Maurice Sharp. She is a member of the Baroque Artists of Shreveport and the Shreveport Symphony Woodwind Quintet and has performed with orchestras in San Francisco, Minneapolis, Guadalajara and Veracruz, Mexico.

The 2024 Master Class scheduled for Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10:00 am. This FREE event will include classes on each of the three AMEA Regional Audition Etudes for flute designed to improve performance on audition day. Students will have an opportunity to volunteer to play as part of the class. The instructors are some of the valley's top professionals. An optional piccolo etude class, performance anxiety seminar, and mock auditions are also offered following the masterclasses. Approximately 70% of participants in the past have been selected for their Regional Band or Orchestra.
The DEF flute choir program welcomes all adult and high school flutists who enjoy creating music together in the increasingly popular setting of a flute choir/flute orchestra. A week-long flute camp experience that brings renowned guest artists and local artist faculty together with flutists to learn and play in a stimulating and supportive environment in the MCC Performing Arts Center. This is an "All-State" type ensemble available to high school flutists in Arizona who made their AMEA Regional Band or Orchestra or were designated an alternate. The flute choir meets for an intensive day and a half of rehearsals and sectionals with three outstanding flutist conductor/clinicians to prepare a full-length concert that includes the opportunity to play low flutes. Several alto and bass flutes are available to use courtesy of the MCC Music Department and professional colleagues. The All-Arizona Flute Choir involves rehearsal, sectionals, and classes June 2 and 3 with a concert at 5:00 on June 3rd.
