This Koala was observed in the Mt Mee area approx 50 km NW of Brisbane, Qld, Australia.
Koalas can be quite hard to see resting in the fork of a tall tree. They are inactive for up to 20
hours in every 24 and spend most of their time off the ground.
The distribution is in eastern Australia from about Chillagoe in north Queensland to Mt Lofty Ranges
in South Australia.
Koalas in the south are larger than those in the north.
Qld: males to 9 kg, females to 7 kg;
Vic: males to 14 kg, females to 10 kg.
Numbers are dropping rapidly in some areas due to large scale clearing of native forest and also due
to the
activity of dogs in the more 'built-up' areas.
