The species Egretta sacra is known as the Eastern Reef Egret in Australia but is known as the
Pacific Heron in other parts of the world.
There are two colour morphs: white and grey.
This particular bird 'lives' around a forshore park area incorporating a boat-trailer park and boat
ramp a short distance from where I live. It seems to be able to cope with the weekend tourists and
the regular jet-ski activities.
I have regularly seem both colour morphs in this same area over a number of years.
The Eastern Reef Egret can be easily identified from the other egrets and herons which inhabit this
area by its shorter and stouter legs.
This is an adult bird judging by the dark upper mandible and orange/yellow lower mandible.
The bird in this picture had just emerged from the water which explains the fluffed-up feathers.
