There was discussion of a windows 10 breaking multiple versions of smart notebook shortly after a release of an update. I think the solution was to download the latest smartnotebook ink drivers and that resolved it for most of the schools:

Previous versions are either copies of files and folders created by Windows Backup or copies of files and folders that Windows automatically saves as part of a restore point. You can use previous versions to restore files and folders that you accidentally modified or deleted, or that were damaged.

Right-click on the file and select "Restore previous versions". You'll get a popup that may say "There are no previous versions available" but if you're lucky, it'll start out reporting that it's searching (for possibly many seconds) for previous versions and then list the ones it's saved. Here's what it showed for me on a source file I've been working on recently but for which I had never requested any automatic backup.

NTFS is a journaling file system, meaning it's one that can track changes in files. That got turned on in Win7. Consistent with that being the start of the journaling, I found that it had snapshots of files I'd changed going back to my installation of Win7 but not of files that were older.

A file recover utility did the trick for me in a similar situation. Recuva has very good reviews and actually was able to recover several older versions of a power-point presentation I had inadvertently overwritten.

Free continuous backup software like DeltaCopy would allow you to pull the previous versions out of the backup destination, and that's a good thing to implement once you have recovered the desired version of your file.

When you modify and save (or a Windows app autosaves) a file, the prior version of the file is thrown away. It's probably still there, for Windows does not normally truly erase a deleted or modified file, instead marking the space the file previously used as reusable. If the file is erased, Windows then breaks the link between the space used by the file to the file name; if the file is modified, Windows changes the link of the file name to point to the new location.

Windows has written and replaced 3,600+ files so far today in six hours of use on my PC, and probably thousands on yours; it is very disk-intensive. Therefore, please abstain from using your PC for anything until you do these recovery steps.

a) Download the Testdisk software file for your OS.
b) Extract its files to a directory on a drive (an external USB attached drive is recommended) which was NOT used to save the desired Word file.
c) Read the README file.
d) Launch Photorec.
e) Specify recovery from the source drive where the file was.
f) Specify recovery to a destination drive (so it is not overwriting any clusters which might contain your data).
g) Start the recovery scan.
h) When scan completes, open the destination directory. A file name will have been randomly assigned by Photorec but the extension will match what you're looking for.
i) Open each of the recovered Word files which match the size (plus/minus 5%) of the file in question. Check to see what they contain. Delete them if not what you want.

Office (tested with Office 365 V1909) saves files for Word, Excel etc. in a similar way creating various temporary files. Instead of modifying the original file it creates a new file and renames and deletes the old one containing the old version.

IMPORTANT: make sure not to use the drive where the word file is stored until you are finished with recovering your deleted files. Space occupied by deleted files will be overwritten sooner or later when new data is saved on that drive.

If you're using Notebook 9.7 software, you can open Notebook files created with earlier versions and save new files in the older format. This is useful for sharing documents with people who are still using an earlier version, because those versions can't open Notebook files created with version 9.7.

I have an old backup configuration from a former laptop. When I started using a new laptop it was time to clean up some stuff and to rearrange things. I kept de old backups on my remote storage space (Stack) because they could contain files I might need some day. But one of those backups contains 14 versions (it was configured with the smart retention option). I want to save space on my remote storage so I want to delete the 13 oldest versions of the backup and just keep the last one. But I cannot run the backup one last time because the source has been rearranged or removed. I just want to delete the older versions.

hi, i have 5 version of backups. following your guide, I use --version=1-4 and it delete some backups (seems so from the logs) and show success. but in the home page. it still always show 5 version even if I restart the docker or run delete for few more times.

I have moved to a new computer (Ubuntu Linux from Windows). I have a directory on an external HDD called Duplicati Backup. It will have loads of old versions of the backups I used to do on my old Win10 machine.

Going with full Windows and full Linux backup versions could use a lot more space.
Reusing at least current source file contents in the backup might use only what the
metadata (file attributes) need, because those are very different due to OS change.

I am using SmartNotebook 11 it does not work with version 11.9. they suggested I revert to the older version but when I try I get a message that states this is not allowed as it is not the latest version of the product.

Since I was able to install with the versions provided on the SMARTTech web site, I was thinking that you might be able to install that version as well. However, looking into it further, I discovered that it is not the install file, but the manner in which the previous version is uninstalled that allows an older version to be installed.

If you previously installed a version of Flash Player for Internet Explorer, then you can be prevented from installing an earlier version. For example, if you installed Flash Player 10.0.32.18 and tried to install version 10.0.22.87, then the installation fails. In some versions, the following error message is displayed:

Download the uninstaller for Flash Player from Uninstall Flash Player Windows (tn_14157). The latest version of the uninstaller for Flash Player deletes the "safe versions" registry key by default. To run the uninstaller in silent mode, follow the instructions below.

THANKYOU ... I tried the uninstaller from this link, and it worked I had tried to uninstall from a link in an email I received from Smartech and that presumably had a 'problem' with the "safe Versions"registry key.

I might add that if you use cloud-based applications to create and edit your files, these may also save versions. For instance, in Google Docs, you can select File > See revision history to see what older versions are available.

I had the same problem on an older MacBook running High Sierra. I configured the printer from an iPhone (iOS 15.5) using HP Smart app. Prints fine from iOS and Windows 10 laptop using HP Smart. To print to an HP printer (LaserJet MFP M140) from High Sierra, go to

and follow instructions for adding an AirPrint printer under MacOS Settings/Printers & Scanners. In the last configuration step, there is a choice between AirPrint and Secure AirPrint. I selected the former. A test pdf printed fine. Whether this is a stable solution I do not know.

Hello, Did anybody got a solution on how to install the HP smart on a mac that cannot be updat to 10.14 (Majora)????
I am surprised that HP support time has no clue that MacBooks before 2012 can't be updated to higher than macOS High Sierra 10.13.6. It must be provided a older version so we can be able to use the printers mine is Ink Advantage 2376

Notebooks on OneDrive use the latest OneNote file format. Users without newer versions of OneNote can use the free web version or download a free version of OneNote from OneNote to access the notebook.

Windows 10 ships with a compatible driver for both the VE.Direct USB cable and the MK3-USB cable: there is normally no need to install a driver for that. In case you do have issues connecting to a Victron product via USB, we recommend to manually install the VE.Direct USB driver, by downloading it from our website on the Software downloads page.

It might be good to know that these USB drivers can be installed even without the USB cable connected to your computer. It will install the files, which will automatically be used once you connect the cable.

For devices with Android 12 and later in connection with VictronConnect v5.70 and later, it is not necessary to grant Access for Location Service. You are not asked for it when opening or installing the VictronConnect app. We recommend updating the mobile device to Android 12 and later whenever possible.

Android 5 devices with a 64-bit CPU will experience a crash at startup due to an issue in the libraries we use to develop VictronConnect. This is not expected to be fixed. A workaround for this issue is manually installing the VictronConnect APK, which can be downloaded in the software section.

The pairing does not work on some phones running Android 5. The PIN code pop-up does not appear or appears without a text field to enter the PIN code. If you are in this situation, your phone might report that it has been paired with the Victron product, but it has not.

Note that after enabling Location Services, the GPS itself can be switched off again: Android Location Services are more than GPS. Bluetooth and WiFi scan results can technically also be used to approximate the phone's location; hence, these requirements.
