NHLgreats including Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and Joe Sakic, currents stars Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid and Patrick Kane, as well as host Ron MacLean and Cole's former colour man, Harry Neale, all feted the St. John's native.

Cole's career with HNIC started with a radio broadcast of a playoff game in 1969 at the old Boston Garden between the Bruins and Canadiens. He moved to TV in 1973 and would go on to describe countless hockey moments for millions of fans across the country.

Cole saw his workload scaled back in recent years by Rogers, which took over national TV rights via Sportsnet ahead of the 2014-15 season. He didn't call any playoff games last spring for the first time in his career, and got 16 dates on the 2018-19 season.

As for Saturday's game itself, playoff-bound Toronto jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Montreal, which was eliminated from post-season contention Friday, evened the score on the second goal by rookie Ryan Poehling, who was making his NHL debut.

During the Hollywood Fringe Festival this past June, I twice attended the immersive production The Collective by Last Call Theatre, since I really appreciate the skill it takes to stage a show that will be completely different each time it runs. I also marvel at actors who are kept on their toes having to react to whatever may happen when they are among audience members whose reactions will guide the story each time. And I do admit to loving playing a part in the show as an audience member every time I get the chance!

There will be two 21+ Adults Only performances on Fridays, December 8 and 15 where alcohol will be available for purchase. All proceeds from the bar will support the Immersive Art Collective, whose mission is to provide a safe space for expression, encourage healing, supply skills to foster careers in the arts industry, and provide FREE arts education to underserved communities & youth. The Bashful Bandit, on East Speedway at North Dodge Boulevard, closed for good Sunday but is inviting its fans for one last hurrah today from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Above, a patron named Rebel, left, planted a kiss on Bkay Welch at the Bandit's L-shaped bar in 2008.

But before he begins a $250,000-plus buildout of the space that will include keeping the wraparound wooden bar and stools, creating an outdoor kitchen, enlarging the restrooms and repaving the parking lot, Kyte is opening the Bandit for one last hurrah on Friday, June 18.

The bar will open at 11 a.m. for a final last call and to give customers who have photos or other memorabilia on the memorial wall a chance to take it home; other memorabilia from the license plates, posters and blowup dolls, are not included, Kyte said. The bar will remain open until 9 p.m.

The Bashful Bandit opened in 1980 and attracted a mix of folks from its midtown neighborhood, including bikers and some college students from the nearby University of Arizona. Kyte, a Tucson native, recalled his first time at the bar when he was home for the summer after his freshman year at NAU. He was underage and his buddies had dared him to go in to the Bandit and order a beer.

What started in March with a public call for nominations, of which we received 2,500, will come to an end on Monday when we announce our Eater Young Guns Class of 2012. You've met some of the final 50 over the last two weeks. In reverse chron, Adam Leonti, Matt Rudofker, Cole Dickinson, Bradley Herron, Tim Maslow, Titus Wang, Ashley Santoro, Chris Donato, Tara Emerson, and Michael McAvena have been featured with letters of recomendation and other assorted supporting material. Above we add recomendations for Mallory Staley, Stephen Trevino, and Daniel Felder of American Cut, Congress, and Momofuku Labs, respectively.

As hopefully the last two weeks have made clear, in these final 50 we have some incredibly talented folks. It's been a good show getting this far, we do hope; and when we announce our winners, when we reveal these young whippersnappers to the world and set them off to do great things, we think you'll be excited for them, too. To that end, do tune in at 1 PM EST on Monday, when we'll announce our 16 Young Guns for 2012 across Eater sites.
