Iwas playing fallout 4, 3 days ago, and it was working fine. Save and load systems worked like a charm. Then 2 days ago it stopped working properly and every time I try to load a save I am met with an CTD after just short of 3 seconds of the loading screen popping up. Some things to keep in mind:
Greetings, I don't have a solution, but I have the same problem. I was running my game just fine until Vortex was recently updated. Now I can't load any save for any modded character I have.
Perhaps this update has made a mod or two incompatible for some reason. I can't be sure because I can't check out every single mod out of 200, though I did update the ones that need it. I also didn't download any new mods either.
I'd admit that my mods aren't optimized the best. They're just disabled/enabled until Fallout 4 doesn't crash.
Maybe I'm just missing something simple, but everything was running fine before a Vortex update.
Next, what happens if you start a new vanilla game with no mods installed? Try that first from the Steam launcher not Vortex. If it launches, play that game for a while. Try saving, closing, and re-launching multiple times. This tests your game to see if it is installed properly.
If it won't launch or crashes, then you probably need to re-install it. After uninstalling it in Steam, go to where your Fallout game files (NOT saves) are located and delete that parent folder. Even when the Steam client says it has uninstalled the game, all the old files are still on your drive until to actually delete them. Once the old files are deleted, then you can make a new installation from Steam.
With a playable vanilla test game -- and no need to do a new installation -- then try launching from Vortex. If it won't launch or crashes shortly after loading the saved game, then the problem is probably your Vortex installation. Delete it, re-install it, and try again. You might want to try an earlier version. DO NOT USE BETA VERSIONS of Vortex. Stay with stable versions. I have found the Betas sometimes have features that worked before but no longer do. Don't mess with them unless it is just for testing.
My experience playing Fallout 4 with mods is that the game can be very delicate. Having many mods loading too many items or scripts in the early stage of launch will cause crashes. Using mods that break pre-combines will cause random crashes or weird displays like missing parts of buildings or terrain objects. If you use Sim Settlements, remember that SS1 mods are not compatible with SS2. Mods that expand the borders of buildable areas in settlements can cause crashes.

I am having the same problem. Over A year ago I started modding and only ever used vortex. It worked fine, had no issues. Then I lost my rig, and now just a year later, I got another one and started to installing and modding Fallout 4 again. The game ran fine for one day, then started getting 'couldn't read arguements' and vortex diagnostic saying it couldn't find the F4SE.log file. No one seemed to help, just suggest I installed it wrong in the first place...so I went to uninstall and reinstall everything again, following instructions for manual install. Still same error. Some suggested I try to launch the game from the fallout 4 folder from the f4se launcher, so I did, and it worked and so did the game...was sorta happy except that the game would CTD sometimes, then would not start again until after I went to a different profile and like my test one that only has F4SE enabled.. Then go back into profile and the game would start and get past the menu and load menu. Play for hours then exit the game and fine, then try to go back in and it's the same.
Then I tried to back up files into onedrive and they tried to access the vortex saves folder, and the program went hogwild ballistic, deleted records, deleted plugins, etc. I had to restore my vortex from the previous day and then reinstall all mods I had installed since then. I had to clean all the DLC's and it was a hot mess...don't use onedrive to back up your files...disastrous.
I'm thinking of installing an old version of it and seeing if things goes well, and then updating that one. And no one has a fix for the 'couldn't read arguements' problem so still using my workaround using a shortcut to the F4SE launcher and playing that way instead of within vortex.
It's all made me want to change mod organizers to like MO2 that all my friends are so absolutely adore and hate vortex even though they never used it. I like vortex and would love some real solutions instead of the usual 'you installed it wrong, or it's a mod thing when all these mods I've used worked perfectly fine just a year ago, and have updated versions since I had to go and download all the mods again....not easy after the Nexudous that happened after the collections feature was announced.
I use Vortex to manage my mods. That's it. I have shortcuts to the game exe, or script extender exe files to actually play the game. I also make sure steam is running before I start the game. (steam does not automatically start with windows on my machine. I use it for more than just gaming, so, when I want to play, I start steam manually.) My games are stable, and run just fine.
do all of these pre-order exclusives only give you access to weapons, armor and other items earlier on, or are they available if you didn't pay for pre-order? you may want to include the answer to this question in the main article, to stop any further confusion.
I had preorded my Fallout: New Vegas (PEGI Version, an Austrian Version of the Game) at a Gamestop in Germany and got a Code for the Caravan Pack. Someone here can confirm this? Scorpion-c 18:47, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
Can these really be classified as add-ons? I think people tend to think of the expansions of Fallout 3 when they think of add-ons, not this. Should we instead maybe put this on the main article for New Vegas? JimmyBassatti 01:23, July 28, 2010 (UTC)
Each time I launch the game the .esm addon pack is checked by default, even when I unchecked it in a previous load. I still get the warning about missing content if I uncheck it, and next time I get the items again at any point of the game if I forget to uncheck. It is annoying. The only way I found to disable permanently those unbalanced start items was to move the .esm out of the data folder.--Croquignol 14:58, December 30, 2010 (UTC)
there actually has been announcements about fallout new vegas dlc.... they just didn't contain any information other than a vague estimate of release date.... but it's not true that NO announcements at all have been made... Namad 14:56, November 1, 2010 (UTC)
"It is likely that Obsidian will continue the war with the NCR and Legion further."How is it likely exactly? The story pretty much wraps itself up by the ending sliders. 90.224.93.138 03:43, November 29, 2010 (UTC)
-It also has been stated there will not be a dlc that continues the main story, so no broken steel for new vegas. I'm assumeing that each dlc will at 5 levels each and always mention ulysses each time in some way shape or form but the final dlc might be a final battle "between the 2 couriers at the divide (grand canyon)." But I just hope there will be more dlc besideds dead money because I personally was disapointed with dead money
-Honestly, FO:NV seemed kind of lame, but it did have choices. I am bummed to shart that they announced that no DLC will continue the story, therefore, i dont even really feel like getting ANY of the DLC now. FO3 did okay with the 5 addons, even if the story never wrapped itself up after. But now that i know that there is no extension to the main story, it just kind of kills it for me. Anyone agree with my rambling statement?
I acctully had a Thought that New Vegas would be like a bridge to Fallout 4 Where we would have like a Van Buren Completion and then go from there. Or have like a Van Buren themed DLC for New Vegas. I think that would be AWESOME. Think about New Vegas After your decision you can choose to finish those Prototype Projects that would have been in Van Buren. I can see it now. Fallout New Vegas DLC: VAN BUREN. Lenov 02:06, December 14, 2010 (UTC)
New Vegas has enough references in it already to count it as the spiritual sucessor to Van Buren, and its likely that they'll continue this by creating a good few DLC based off of the design documents for that game; ie The Burned Man and New Canaan, The Grand Canyon, Tibetts Prison, all of which in my mind have been pretty much confirmed settings for future DLC. =P Wyrmalla 17:06, January 4, 2011 (UTC)
I can't wait for Dead Money but I wanna know what other DLC they will have. I assume the DLC will be like Fallout 3's DLC. They will release 5 DLCs in total, with the 3rd DLC continuing after the game's ending.(However I believe it would be impossible to create a DLC to continue the game after the main story because of all the different ways the game could end) I would like to see a DLC about the Enclave Remants and DLC in California and/or Arizona.
- Reply By Ghoztz - I think the Area 51 DLC is just a hype, and they wont follow the same order as fallout 3 -- Shitty Beging DLC, A semi open-world DLC too set an example, An after-game DLC, An Open-world DLC, And Forced Landscape DLC that left Unanswerd Questions. @.@.. But i belive there could be another After Game DLC. Eg: Yet ANOTHER faction Arises In The wasteland, One that Forces The strip too comply with it, And spreads Mass fear. One Person alone can stop this Uprising. The Courier.. With His Dog Of Steel And The Doctor Of Life.. (Ik, they set it pretty nasty for the Followers. Could be new ones as the others Either Move, Die, Or in Rex's case, Adapt too the brain of the new dog)But still. Its a strong posiability . With Dead Money's ending Bringing Rages
