Hi Weed Watchers! I would like to share with you the updated Wilderness Weed Watchers volunteer manual, the trail list and news about some upcoming group surveys. As you will see in the manual, our survey collection methods and weeds of interest are the same but our reporting system is a little different from last year. Please have a look and don't hesitate to let me know if you need more information about how to contribute to the project this year!

    A couple key items:

    - Updated trail spreadsheet (attached). Trails highlighted in orange reflect limited access due to road closures or mine remediation at Monte Cristo. Click on the trail name for more details. Trails highlighted in green reflect commitments by volunteers to survey these trails this summer. Do you know where you will be hiking? Let me know and I will mark your trail as "adopted". You are welcomed to survey green trails, but may want to prioritize other trails that are not adopted.

    - Group surveys: We have a couple group surveys scheduled and more to come! A group survey is a great way to practice survey methods and gain confidence as a weed watcher.

§ Friday, June 28 - Pratt Connector Trail - Practice with Upper Snoqualmie Weed Watchers - We will meet at 9am at the North Bend Ranger station. Important survey on a new trail - rumors of tansy ragwort fly transported via trail crew . Registration:

§ Sunday, June 30 - Taylor River Trail - Practice Upper Snoqualmie Weed Watchers - We will meet at 9am at the North Bend Ranger station. On the hunt for stinky bob and other nasties on the Taylor River trail. Registration: http://www.mountaineers.org/source/atrips/TripRegister.cfm?Event=35679

§ Tuesday, June 9 - Summit Lake Trail in Clearwater Wilderness. Register: http://www.mountaineers.org/source/atrips/TripRegister.cfm?Event=35768

§ Thursday, July 18 - Quartz Creek Trail in Henry M. Jackson Wilderness. Register:
    http://www.mountaineers.org/source/atrips/TripRegister.cfm?Event=35768

§ Saturday, July 20 - Marten Creek in Boulder River Wilderness. (optional camp-out for two days of survey fun!) Register:
    http://www.mountaineers.org/source/atrips/TripRegister.cfm?Event=35818

§ Sunday, July 21 - Kelcema Lake & Deer Creek Pass in Boulder River Wilderness. Two short trails! Register:
    http://www.mountaineers.org/source/atrips/TripRegister.cfm?Event=35819

    · GPS loans - Please let me know when/if you would like to borrow a GPS unit - we can loan these for up to two weeks. We have a limited amount of units, so contact me early to secure a loan and make arrangements for pick-up or delivery. I am happy to provide rudimentary instruction on how to capture a lat/long location on the units!
    Attached to this email:

    · Updated trail list

    · An electronic copy of the volunteer guide

    · Survey forms & weed lists, in Excel and PDF format

Thanks again everyone and please let me know if I can help answer any questions!
