- FW: Volunteer opportunities at Gold Creek Pond-native plants not weeds! [1 Update]

Hello Weed Watchers! We have an inquiry from Helen, the District Botanist on the Cle Elum Ranger District, about the status of weed surveys on the Wapatus Lake Trail - if anyone has the time or ability to plan a late season survey hike to Wapatus Lake, there are reports of Canda thistle and Queen Anne's lace - it would be great to get some extra eyes on the trail!
Wapatus is a long hike in but as I understand it, a gradual grade. Would be a great overnight. Please let me know if you think you can make it!

Hi Sarah,
I was wondering if you have had anyone go up the Wapatus Lake trail and towards spinola creek? I have two reports of Canada thistle and Queen Anne's lace I am wondering are still there.

Sasha and Sarah,
Gold Creek Pond is an area where the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie and Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forests have been doing a lot of integrated weed management. Although that work is still ongoing-we are now moving into more native planting at the site. There are two more upcoming volunteer opportunities to help plant natives as part of the on-going work. Last year a few weed watchers showed up to help me with some mulching, so I wanted to share this opportunity for other non-weed pulling work. One of our project partners, Conservation Northwest, is heading up all the volunteer work and a link to their calendar of events as well as the contact information is included below. Could you please share this with the weed watchers.
WHAT: Volunteers spend the day collecting seeds and planting native plants, working with the Forest Service to restore habitat adjacent to Gold Creek near Snoqualmie Pass in the Interstate 90 corridor, as part of the WA Dept. of Transportation's construction of underpasses to connect habitat for wildlife to successful cross I-90.
WHEN: September 29th and October 13th
